But I would add the following:
I've tried several NAS and it is to despair, how much is offered as a,
what is not working or is different from IT standards.
I had a long LG NAS at home, but these reached their limits. Even with the assurance there was the usual restrictions.
This Synology keeps its promises. (Unlike so many other, cheaper NAS systems).
Following advantages it offers in my opinion to other NAS that I had so far in use (Linksys, LG, Western Digital (Raid HD), etc.)
> Genuine G / bit ethernet, the write and read speeds go up to 90MByte per second, which corresponds to the feasible Gbit Ethernet. The other NAS reached just one third. (20-35MByte), which approx. 0,4Gbit equivalent.
> The operating system receives updates for many years and is with all Synology NAS equal, which has the advantage that there are always updates. (In other systems, there were around 1 year, no more updates, the errors were still present, were no longer fixed!).
> The system is permanently safe (due to constant updates)
> The system is fast (even with multiple background applications, you hardly notice slowdowns what
could be felt always extremely bad in the other NAS also)
> The system can do what it says. No cuts or pseudo-functions.
> The system uses Linux. The Linux offers the possibility completely to engage. So you can do everything that the NAS gives forth. (Other systems are limited to a web interface that would not be bad if the web interface are usually poorly written, or simply not to let functions Ex .: LG NAS:. Backup USB flash drive to hard drive goes, not the other way around questions to the support. then usually are called "is only one Home NAS" answers. That seems in very many products to be the case. Just write a lot on the package and poorly implemented. This is not done here very clearly. What it says GO! fully and without "Abspeckung".
> The system is a true NAS. When I log on Synology and copy data from the USB device to the NAS, the data is copied from the NAS in the background. For other products, this was not so. The data have been copied to the NAS via the PC. in plain text: If the PC has been shut down, the operation was canceled. The here is not so. If you are an object of Synology, this is done reliably, you get an email notification when it is finished.
> Software Quality !! What is pretty much always the case, is that the software of a private-Nas is often flawed, resulting in frustration, data loss also also costs a lot of time. Synology obviously puts a lot of emphasis on what a NAS should do: function! Although the case looks rather conservative, but the software is exactly the opposite. Synology saves (to keep the price) so prefer something on the optical design of the case, but (unlike many others) is not on the software! And it occurs -in my opinion- to demand.
CONCLUSION:
Rare but there you are: A NAS which NAS may call and works reliably.
Too bad that it is often difficult for the customer to find manufacturers like Synology.
Who value reliable performance and Software!
