Despite some problems with crashes at USB 3.0 hard drives the other reports, I ordered this adapter and have not been disappointed. I also had problems at first that eg a WD Passport hard drive had logged off suddenly during operation. After a bit of Google I have found a known issue with the USB 3.0 power management functions that support this NEC chipset. Many USB 3.0 controller does not control these functions and crash when inquiries are received in the communication. After disabling the USB 3.0 power management features in USB 3.0 controller in Device Manager everything is going well and very quickly.
For the lousy controller firmware of the device, the USB adapter can finally nothing and therefore a perfect score.
The assumption that the power supply to the USB port is not true.
The controller is fast. With a 64 GB USB 3.0 Stick Hyper X Kingston read rates to 150 MB / s in there. The WD Passport 1TB hard drive reads at about 110 MB / s.
