I know myself in the area is quite good and had already bought several cameras. When I free hand Scan with the Nikon P900, the images are often mediocre. As a lightweight all-round camera (without a tripod) my Nikon P520 like better and frees hand and better pictures. The Nikon P520 also has the telephoto with 2m a shorter minimum focusing distance than the P900 (5m). The P900 is for me therefore rather an alternative to the telephoto range. That is all that can not afford a 600mm F4 telephoto for 8000 Euro or think about a Tamron 150-600, should look at times the Nikon P900. The pictures with a tripod and ISO 100 are very good, with ISO 200 and ISO 400 good satisfying (not worse than a Sony HX400V). For me, the camera is an alternative to "Digiscoping".
