Have this camera for over a year in operation. Bought it was about the emerging opportunities in the tele photography full advantage. I use exclusively Leica R lenses on the E5, such as the APO 280mm f 2.8 Telyt. With an APO Converter I have thus converted a telephoto - over small picture - from 784mm f4.0 (1.4 APO Converter) or from 1120mm f5.6 (2.0 APO Converter) and at the same time fully functioning image stabilizer. Since the Leica lenses is superior in sharpness and contrast just such offer already at full aperture, this combination camera / lens is ideal. The image quality of the E5 can be proud of (hardly worse than the Canon EOS 1Ds - only in extreme excerpts do then the missing pixels noticeable). So - in this combination fully recommended. Like the Olympus lenses are high, I can not judge. Of course - where a lot of light, there are also shadows. What this most annoys me: Although in the E5 - as in the EOS 1Ds - two Kate slots are available, this camera can not paralell to each a card and RAW files on the other card to record JPEG files. That's just in the post - copy to your computer in different folders - very time-consuming and would not (see Canon). A further drawback is the interpretation of the AE bracketing (BKT). This is not individual, but simply according to camera setting adjustable. So if they want to make a series of -2 exposure levels, normal exposure and +2 exposure level, so that's only 5 pictures. Had Olympus here the possibility of individual setting offered, such Währe a number possible with 3 images (see Canon EOS 1Ds). Another - in my eyes - small lack is the choice of various camera settings menu. As an example, I am thinking only of the mirror lock-up, which I'm looking at regularly. All in all, a good camera which meanwhile ventured into price regions in the price / quality ratio can be regarded as acceptable. Where the problem with the future of 4/3 must therefore remain open, unconsidered.
Addendum December 2012: However, the real problem with this camera is the service. At first he did not react to my e-mails. The camera offers such as the possibilities of control by a computer. Only, the included software Olympus Viewer 2 does not support this feature. So - phone the "right" Sortware - requested Olympus Studio 2. It has also promised me that I would receive this Sortware. However, nothing happened. So - 3 weeks later again sought telephone contact. The employees of Olympus told me that he would überpfüfen if the software did not yet leave the house. The next day, email me to again announce my address so that I can be sent the software. So I did him the favor. After that, then reported another employee of Olympus and said that I could download the Sortware of Olympus America. Said and done. Download Olympus Studio 2 - and which will be installed on my computer? Olympus Viewer 2. I think that borders on failure. So - in and of itself a good camera, which has the service provided not deserve. I wonder, of course, what happens in a real problem with the camera?
