Now I have a direct comparison. The LED version is much brighter. Feels like I would say, a little more than twice as bright the light is, however, completely different -. Much colder in the color temperature, which is why a statement is not quite so simple. Unfortunately, I have no gauge for the light intensity, so must meet these "perceived" indication. The cold light makes some things "distorted" appear when you illuminates. The bulbs light looks a little more natural, simply because it's warmer.
Furthermore, the LED version lasts longer. We go with the two lamps geocaching, each filled with 4,500 mAh batteries. The "old" keeps about 45-60 minutes, after which they will lose much of brightness. The LED lamp I had on two nights in succession about 150 min in operation without the light output decreased (which anyway does not work, is controlled electronically; if, then is the same completely out). How long it holds a total of, I have not tried yet (is stupid when you standing around with no light in the forest ').
It is nice that you can focus the lamps. In the LED version, however, is caused by the LED itself, a dark circle in the center of the beam when the beam fans out. In the bundled version of the jet is closed and extends more than 200m wide. However, this creates the "old" even. A higher range we have not yet measured, in terms of brightness, however, the LED version should provide the 300m (because already plays rather not with my eye).
Otherwise Maglites are just hard you have to like, or can wear / want. We have with the corresponding ring mounts on the belt, which is bearable. How robust are the parts really, I have not tried - I use it as a light, not as a hammer, beating or the like.
Dirt is certainly not get inside (not in the battery compartment or in the optical compartment).
The only catch - the disc scratched before the bulb over time.
