But first things first:
Unpacking and assembling was no problem at all, very well illustrated Quick Start Guide. The installation of the software, however, was-as usual-with HP rather mixed: Two laptops with Windows 7 SP1, on a the setup has suspended, on the other, it ran through, but the printer was not accessible / available. As an IT admin to me is not new, so I was already prepared that when pure Durchlicken setup something goes wrong.
The problem with the installation was -once more- the "HP Toolbox", ie the small tool, which continuously monitors the device and the communication between the machine and computer manufactures at run directly on the device scan jobs. To operate the machine as a printer, the HP toobox is not needed, so complete software again thrown down by both machines and again from the beginning.
In the second attempt I have the printer first (connected via Ethernet; IP via DHCP) via its web interface preconfigured, ie WLAN set up e-mail settings and scan targets defined etc. then subtracted the Ethernet cable, to control wlan on the web interface: All good device accessible and ready.
Second Round Software Installation: Custom Setup, only drivers installed. Therefore end up actually only the printer and the Twain driver on your computer, no HP Toolbox and certainly no "spyware", the ink usage, and other data to HP sparks. Print went accordingly directly and easily. A corresponding link to the scanning unit of the device lands on the desktop, over documents lying on the template or in the catchment can be scanned directly. Also it worked without problems.
What does not work without HP Toolbox, is starting a scan job directly on the device with Scan-target "PC". My workaround provides two options: Who betreibet a NAS or a home server, there can easily share folders and configure the scan destinations. Without NAS or Home Server remains the way to send scanned documents by e-mail, this various mail recipients can be predefined (via web interface).
After the unit of two Windows 7 machines was easily available, I have installed on my Windows 8.1 Tablet the appropriate driver, and lo and behold, even under Windows 8.1 no problems printing and scanning fold easily.
Significant advantages of the device receives because of the comparatively low toner cartridges; currently is the price for a complete set at ~ 88, - Euro, which is absolutely fine, especially ink for a comparable ink MFP is not cheap, on the contrary (if I da mal open the bill, what a liter of ink costs ...). In addition, the device has been running since the second "installation lap" properly. Not really suitable for domestic use absolutely satisfactory for the office due to a long warm-up time and not particularly fast pressure.
Last but not least:
My equipment has been replaced, I would not conceal here. The first device was just a short time, "dead", was probably a Monday device. HP has responded very well here but, not long rumgezackert but directly sent a new device and the defective unit picked up - for me at no cost, very good!
