I bought this record player to feel rather worse for wear the years, Telefunken replace S600. The TFK portion has become 33 years old. The more astonished I was that technically the Technics is a retrograde step. It lacks some features, to which I had become accustomed to: - The turntable motor does not switch off at the end of the plate. The tone arm is not raised. - No positioning aid at the beginning of the record - When switched off the turntable motor the audio output is muted. So if you clean the needle, it must be ensured that the playback volume is not set too high in the amplifier. - The direct drive is not quite rumble free. The disturbances, however, are difficult to hear. A Riemantrieb decoupled better - The arm lift is not precise enough. If the tone arm was lifted at one point to be lowered then again, the scanner ends up at a different location. - The hood hinges protrude quite far over the unit. Since there were better solutions. The shelf or table on which the turntable to stand, so it must be deep enough. All this was the Telefunken better. I really wonder why the turntable has acquired a cult status.
On the other hand the tone arm with the associated counterweights is very flexible, so almost any scanning system can be used. That makes him very universally applicable. Praiseworthy is also the Tonarmhöhenverstellung. I run it with the already available Shure V15 type III. The sound is very good with this system. The documentation (in English) is excellent. The setting instructions are very detailed, so that even a layman can handle this work.
