The SD 23VL is a great concept in principle: VHS and DVD in a box. it all works just fine, he plays with me all possible and impossible formats from DVD, the operation is understandable, the sound and picture quality is great (adjustable black level!) and also the technical equipment is OK. But one thing makes me really angry: On the box and in the manual is several times that abut the S-video output, both the DVD and the VHS signal. That's true, unfortunately not - on the S-Video-out is contrary to the information only the signal from the DVD player to see, even if a VCR running. After five (!!!) unsuccessful calls to Toshiba I was finally connected with someone who admitted with a shrug, that the information in this manual that is incorrect - the unit is no VHS picture of the S-video output. Stupid for me because that was the reason to buy. And other people, it does not go quite differently. I realize that actually only S-VHS players also output an S-Video signal, but that does not mean that such output may not be backward compatible with normal VHS (There are plenty of devices that can do). Actually one should not buy the device on principle, because Toshiba has offered neither compensation nor solution. "Well then you give the equipment back up," was the terse and unfriendly also outspoken announcement. True to the motto "My first Sony" this "My last Toshiba" was. You do not have to join anything, yes. Who does not bother with the S-Video Out: Buy. All other: Be warned.
