What have I wanted?
1. First of all, of course, a media player that supports the currently popular formats.
2. He should play HD material properly and thereby provide a reasonable picture (Panasonic 127cm).
3. was important for me that I can connect multiple disks.
4. In addition, the device should provide the ability to use custom ROMs. Not because I myself who make, but because it is the future security much more assured than it usually allow the manufacturer through their own ROMs.
5. Internet radio (especially "SHOUTcast") should be available.
3D capability and WiFi were not so important. If they were going well.
To the device itself.
The workmanship is good. Design and size living room absolutely suitable.
The volume of the integrated fan is (to my ears) very low. I do not take him true. The slot for the internal (to buy separately) HD is located on the right side. USB connectors are front, left and back of the device. Ever more than enough contact options on the device are available.
I myself run a 2gig-HD in the internal shaft of the device, as well as a 1,5gig-HD to the router (Fritz box Cable 6360). The network connection runs with me on cable.
Before Egreat I always watched movies on the PS3. This was connected over the network to my PC, acted on the "TVersity" as a media server. But since I had a look for the film always the "big" PC and the PS3 run me of unnecessarily high power consumption was permanently an eyesore. A small box is as much more power efficient.
Installation of the equipment has cost me some nerves and also time. This is but probably also due to the fact that I have replaced at the outset the Stock ROM by a custom ROM. Such custom ROMs can be found quite easily on the Internet. Through this Custom ROM I have now a lot more functions in the device, as the standard software brings.
My movies I watch mostly in m2ts format. This is harmless play and spent in fantastic quality on TV. In addition, I also look many series. A small but nice feature is that the consequences are played automatically one after another. Nothing earth-shattering, but I like it. It is also good that you can control the unit without remote control by the attached to the front controls. I use to operate a "Logitech Harmony 600". The programing has even taken some time, but now works well.
One problem I have, however, still with the device. Probably is not really on the device, but somewhere different reasons. If I want to push films to the internal HD, that is only very slowly. With approximately 4MB / sec. which would receive data from my PC to the Media Player. Why this is so, so far I could not understand. Since I have DSL 64k, and data with 8MB / sec. can download from the Internet, I am a bit confused. Why the Internet to the PC with 8MB, from the PC to Egreat but only with max. 4MB, probably know only the gods.
All in all I am satisfied with the device. After a few minor teething problems I have now the device that I was looking for. I can watch movies and series in superb quality. Music and audio books are also not a problem. Since I'm a fan of "Shoutcast" I am of course particularly through its support (possible with Custom ROM). Youtube can also be used quite passable, but is there still some room for improvement, in particular the operation is bumpy.
Anyone looking for a simple device, with which he wants to look his films, is probably better served with a more favorable unit.
But who is not afraid to stick a USB drive into your machine to a new ROM aufzuspielen, get a really good device that have not heard in a few years to scrap iron. The range of functions is certainly really good; (With Custom ROM). I would buy the device anyway immediately.
