Good equipment - would buy it again

My previous 54 Mbit router should be replaced, requirement 300 Mbit, 2.4 + 5 GHz. I have previously tested two other 300 Mb router, which admittedly rarely transmitted faster than 54 Mbit - I returned it. Add to this that the wireless chip used (here mainly installed in notebooks) from different manufacturers (Atheros, Intel, Ralink). This router with Ralink chip (Thank you for notice of "net-heimer") understands them all, at least so well that speeds are achieved> 100 Mb (at distance approximately 10m). In one case, even 280 Mb be achieved! Outside on the terrace (about 15m, outer wall) are similar speeds.

The firmware I have upgraded to Version 1.0.1.5. A bit of knowledge you should have read up, the setting procedure is but considering the many possibilities still quite clearly, the online help I believe to be sufficient. Already criticized as otherwise, a time-consuming reboot is often necessary to change. In order to live but, finally makes it not the settings every day.

The router is here merely the transition from LAN WLAN, NAS capabilities, Internet access, etc. are handled by other devices, so all I can say nothing. Directly connected is additionally the TV satellite receivers, as well as there are no problems. Even HDTV can easily stream without other network traffic to itself frequency to influence felt.

One can argue about the design, basically rips a plastic case rarely somebody off the chair. More beautiful than the "boxes" of other manufacturers it is already, I would have liked brighter LEDs, a few meters away they are no longer good to see - if everything works as desired times, but not so important.

All in all, convinced me the device - it runs reliably day and night, a reset I have not seen so far in the logbook - as it should be.

In my assessment, it has remained - a very reliable machine in both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz range in continuous use, I've never seen a reset.

With the firmware update to version 3 (3.0.0.4.260) was designed completely new including the user interface: it is clearer and simpler than the previous versions. Possibly now missing the professional one or another adjustment which is also hardly used normally.

This update first led me to a strange behavior when connecting to one of my various wireless clients: an inactive, but existing SSH connection is irregularly at intervals of 2-15 minutes just fell asleep and was only after repeated ping this client from. another computer to bring them back to life. After another update to version 3.0.0.4.318 firmware few days later now working again everything to my complete satisfaction.

Praiseworthy is the continuous development of firmware, so there were some updates in the last 1 1/2 years, the Asus provides each on the homepage. Now the formerly criticized as time consuming cold start of the router does not apply changes are now in effect after a few seconds.

Worth mentioning for specialists perhaps more, that regardless of Asus third party firmware is maintained, the more services provides - I tested it but did not find so far, further details can be easily by search engine.
