Installation:
1. Installing the driver
When connecting the device to the PC to get 2x the message: "Windows can not verify the publisher". The driver had not signed and if I the seller "Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Co. Ltd." Trust me to press OK. Can not afford Philips signed driver? I have certainly Fuzhou Rockchip familiar and kept going.
After Windows recognized the player as a mass storage device on which the paths for music, videos and 2 utilities (the GoGear Device Manager and an Audio Converter) are.
I have copied my music titles in the folder, however, missing from the album view in the player then several albums throughout the title and had found shelter in other albums. That's why I took to me, that the device may not get along with my folder structure (Each album has its own folder) and have therefore installed the GoGear Device Manager.
2. Installation of the Go Gear Device Manager.
This software was developed for the English-speaking world, so that the German strings are too long and will be truncated. One guesses that this program apparently only serves to update the firmware.
After crash and reboot explains the Manager that the latest Version 1.09 is already installed. The GoGear Device Manager can be had not uninstall through the Control Panel.
The GoGear Device Manager has therefore not much helped me. That's why I've tried it with Philips Songbird.
3. Installation of Philips Songbird
"Philips Songbird" is a version of the popular program "Songbird" with plugins for the various Philips player. This software is to manage the music tracks and allows you to copy the title to the correct directories on the device.
The installation went as expected with no problems.
Songbird will detect the player. If, however, such as Antivir the autostart files blocked, the device is not recognized correctly (no icon and no complete device information). One must decide what is a more important block inf files, or view the device correctly.
Philips Songbird
Songbird shows me that all items are perfectly tagged (composer, title, track number, disc number, album artwork ...)
An update of the device on the firmware 1:13 using Songbird as described on the internet is not possible, the button for it does not appear.
The device itself
The album view is still not working, some album missing, but the titles are in different Albums. The Folder View works correctly, however.
Albums with multiple CDs are not possible, the unit will play all tracks on an album by alphabetical order from. This leads eg operas to add entertaining visual effects: The "aria of the Queen of the Night" is played first, the "overture" to the end.
One can make do as follows: It tags the title with its number (eg 01 Overture). However, this does not solve the problem that some albums are not displayed. In addition, as well as the now described problem will only get bigger.
As the titles are too long for the display, they are displayed truncated. There is a title marquee. However, the title is played, but the text remains cut off!
So if I, the title number in the title record with, I go an additional 3 characters are lost.
It also appears the mysterious message: "For settings, press the button" But what button? No matter which button you press, nothing happens.
The product photograph shows on the unit's display the album cover, but not working with my device. Probably you have to experiment with the resolution and the cut of the picture.
When playing a title, a symbol of what a galaxy looks like, but is not found in any description is displayed.
The maximum volume is simply too low and you will be plus warned that loud music is harmful. You can limit the volume (there is no real volume limit, it is only the maximum output voltage is limited to the headphone jack) override, but it is not much louder.
The alleged very good battery life I can not comment.
Conclusion:
The hardware is ok for the price, but the firmware lot still needs to be done. The primitive functions do not run properly, especially the display of the cover. I did not expect from Philips.
Sometime you can certainly do something out of the machine. As long as I do not want to wait, I have returned the device.
