When Equipment everything is basically going wass one needs. On the positive side are a CD with drivers for Windows 98 (I have not tested), screws and a screwdriver.
The processing of the case is expected to be average. The frame itself looks great, but fits with the insert and the cover on the short sides together is not good, but this only harms the optics, the hard disk stops well. The vibrations are not insulated, so the case is in operation very loud (too loud as a hard disk for recording). However, I am confident that you yourself can not do anything with rubber or other material is available, however.
The installation goes smoothly, but the cables must be easily held with fingers, if one pushes the hard drive into the case.
The temperature evolution is okay, but could be a bit lower, but this is probably also dependent on the hard drive. The power supply is barely lukewarm, which is very positive and indicates a good power consumption of the housing.
I've tested an older 40GB hard drive with the housing adjacent to the 160GB hard drive from the recorder. Both were recognized both by a computer with Windows XP as well as from my laptop (Windows 7) from the start. The speed has been tested in two disks with the HD Tune program, amounting to an average of about 30 MB / s, which is about the maximum of USB 2.0 in practice.
One criticism is that the hard drive does not activate it on and off when you shut down the computer or the TV goes off. So you have to either manually turn on and off the hard drive or run 24/7.
For the actual purchase reason, namely to use the old hard drive for recording, the housing is of good use, as long as you get the noise problem under control. Otherwise, the hard drive from the TV was immediately recognized (but had to be formatted with the exFAT file format, which is not but is on the housing) and is to be able to record HD far and fast enough programs using timeshift.
Conclusion: The case is a price well worth it. Who needs a casing to old IDE hard drives needed for backups and for infrequently used data which can access here without hesitation. Who needs his IDE hard drive daily to accommodate, for example, from the TV, be the need to realize that the housing is very loud and does not support automatic on and off function.
