Spoiler Warning. With great anticipation I have started the Han Solo Trilogy and what left disappointed by the end of volume one. While plot, characters and ideas seem to have fully blossomed in Crispin's mind, her writing remains average up to the point I felt slightly annoyed by the Book. Han does, naturally, deserve to have had a romantic interest before Leia, HOWEVER, The Paradise Snare fails to elaborate on Han and Bria's relationship. This is due to Crispin's inability to build on even pace Throughout the book. Their relationship Develops in a course of six months Approximately, yet the book fails to make this clear enough. After Han spots Bria for The First Time, he has fallen for her Practically and she, too, Seems to have feelings for him immediately. Naturally, one Could argue it what love at first sight but it felt unnatural and artificial Their relationship. In fact, I felt annoyed by Their dialogues Because I was thrown into this relationship and did not have time to get used to the idea. Again, this happens in a course of six months, HOWEVER, the book has only about 300 pages from Which more than half of it is spent on Han's childhood, his coming to Ylesia and the final escape. While in other cases (Children of the Jedi, for example) less pages would havebeen more, The Paradise Snare would need at least 100 pages more in order to make certain decisions and actions of the characters believable enough.
I truly Hope that The Hutt Gambit and Rebel Dawn will have improved in writing Because there IS potential. Plot, characters, etc. are likable and there is a Star Wars feeling about Crispin's book That simply can not be denied.
