The DymoLabel 420P comes in a bag incl. 4 bands (in my case, 6mm black / clear, 9mm black / yellow, 12mm black / white and 19mm black / red), a battery, charger, USB cable and manual incl. Software CD.
In my case was also of particular interest if and how the software runs under OS X.
The LabelManager 420P comes in a plastic case in almost usual Dymo format. Compared to my comparison device Label Manger 420P is powered by a battery pack. In the instructions it says to also, that in this way the annoying change of batteries is eliminated and less waste is produced. This opinion I share only conditionally, because the AA batteries are available for. Example in the form of Eneloops as top batteries and change it any more than the battery pack. The Dymo reasoning why the battery pack to be better than normal batteries, so I can not follow - on the contrary: this battery is defective, you will need to organize an accessory - or throw away the Dymo. This means that the battery pack (7.4V Li-ion) can not simply be replaced by AA batteries or rechargeable batteries. Also the power supply is used solely for charging the battery and not to operate the Dymos without battery!
Also, I was a bit irritated by the quality of the tapes, which I previously did not know before. Perhaps the promo rather "B-Ware" tapes be settled, but not the worst goods should be there but just on the promo. In my case, the 6mm tape is not assembled properly, so that the Therrmotransferfolie is perforated permament and thus constantly wrinkled and the risk that it tears and the belt so is useless. When 9mm tape the mechanics had not properly tightened and has after some fumbling at all work until - to say, there was no feed instead, a printer was thus initially impossible .. The red of 19mm tape is comparatively Blas, I've already strong seen. Only the 12mm tape is impeccable.
Of the features everything is otherwise offered what one can use more or less useful for home or office. Various borders, font styles, font sizes, formatting (bold, italic, underline, outline, ...) are available as well as a wide range of special characters and symbols. In addition, the most commonly used bar codes can be printed (EAN8 / 13 UPC A / E and 39/128 code). The label 420P can also be a few labels in internal memory (9 pieces). It should therefore be covered a wide range of application.
The device also has a Lite software for Windows and OX X is integrated, which can be used when connecting the Dymos no extra download immediately. With this program you can then use to create labels on the PC, and z. B. be a label several times automatically print or insert z. B. a screenshot. In addition, the fonts on the PC are available. The optional full downloadable software a little more - among other things can here Series labels are created on the basis of an address book and labels are saved as the Dymo itself.
During the LabelManager 420P has been recognized by the integrated software immediately and worked as expected, had in the whole software of Dymo even as printers are "installed" and adjust the settings in the software that this has Dymo _no_ automatic knife and therefore to print cut lines are.
Overall, the software is quite nice, unfortunately stand today is not the full function range of the Dymo displayed in the software. Thus, most frames are not available in the software. How could such inconsistencies arise is not entirely clear, but that can be yes if necessary through software updates fix. Also, at least in conjunction with the 420P label the screenshot function relatively pointless and also the selection of whole PC fonts helps little if the printed image then suffers partially heavily.
In summary of Dymo 420P a solid device for the home and office with little detail weaknesses such as lack of device functions in software, defective tape quality and the battery pack. In my view, therefore, solid 4 stars.
