Looking for a new notebook, I came across a test of A500-1GP, according to which the notebook is supplied with a remote control that sits in the Express slot. Toshiba has set this remote control, it is not there. An infrared port, the notebook does not have too.
My rating:
Positive strikes me:
1) noble, high-quality processing of material and keyboard. It rattles nothing, you type comfortably, numeric keypad, very nice to look at.
2) System components are in approximately all at the same level of performance; there is no "weakest link in the chain"; well-tuned hardware.
3) For a 5400RPM HDD, the transfer performance is good.
4) boots very quickly, if the Express feature enabled in the BIOS (2 seconds to boot the beginning).
5) for notebook standards very good speakers, but not a replacement for external speakers for music, movie or gaming experience.
6) Gerine heat and noise emissions; Unit remains quiet and relatively cool. Comfort.
Negative strikes me:
1) Typical Toshiba - Windows 7 is full of garbage that nobody needs. Not only looks bad, also slows down the system very. My first act: Reinstall. This is but only if you installed from another DVD with the supplied key; because the "Toshiba-HDD recovery function", the system sets the trash on new. For a star deduction.
2) display reflects fairly. Working with a light source in the background (eg window or even outdoors) is not recommended.
3) surface is prone to fingerprints.
4) Display is not "good". There is a lack of contrast, the appearance seems a bit "gray" compared to very good displays. This is particularly evident in movie playback for Internet surfing or word processing is irrelevant. This problem, however, almost all notebooks.
For the points 2 and 4 also a point deduction.
Battery life dimmed display and office applications for about 2 hours.
My conclusion: For me, a good notebook; but only after the complete reinstall Windows. The suitable driver can be found on the Toshiba website. I use the machine mostly inside for office applications; Therefore, the screen fits. For movies I connect the device with Plug and Play via HDMI to my TV set to; Connection to the TV set goes very smoothly.
