It is generally said that the Canon EF 50mm 1.4 is fragile at mobile optical unit. I have had no problems but actually it did not look as solid rock. Which is great with the sun visor is that it is attached to the body of the lens. In case of shock, therefore, the optical compartment remains protected. Visor / bumper therefore strongly recommended!
PS: no problem to make a polarizer with this lens hood :-)
