The modifications I spend a lot of time to determine the top products before I spend quite a lot of money.
REQUIREMENTS FOR A TOP-LIGHTING
This year I have made a thorough renovation of the electrical installations of our bicycle fleet.
In addition to the conversion / installation of several dynamo Shimano DH-3N80 with 6 volt and conversion to 2-wire lines that meant at 5 bicycles switching from Halogen headlights to LED with 40 or 60 lux, light sensor technology, daytime running lights, wide carrier rear light with a plurality of LEDs, wide angle light radiation side light with capacitor. Plus nice, simple design, low weight and robustness.
THE SELECTION
If one looks for a modern dynamo driven 0.6 W / 3V LED Top rear light for luggage carriers with 80 mm screw spacing, at least 2 LEDs and the above features, the choice is actually quite limited. Shortlisted come more than 4-6 models of Busch and Müller between 20 and 35 euros.
Other manufacturers are indeed in some cases considerably cheaper, but play no or only a minor role in testing and reviews.
At the top stands the B & M Toplight Line Plus LED, which is fitted as original equipment to almost any bike of middle and upper class. This is a top product, but I had already 2 bikes. But I did not the other bikes with this one and the same tail light, which can be seen on almost every new bike equip.
The other cheaper B & M can be found on the cheap bikes, sometimes even to the bikes of food discounter. They did not come into consideration.
So there was only the Philips Safe Ride, she is number 22 of the Amazon sales rank and had two five-stars reviews bagged. That's not much but at least a sign of exclusivity and satisfaction.
PHILIPS SAFE RIDE
You can find many details of my clients images with comments, including interesting comparisons (front / rear) with the top model from B & M, which I already own several times.
There you can connect various connectors, fastening pins, labels, etc. See and compare, and learn interesting as the weight.
The Philips-part is very shallow, only 1 mm deep, 17 mm wider and 30 gr heavier than the main competitors, the LED Toplight Line Plus from B & M, which is about 8 euros cheaper.
the shape like it by its purist appearance.
It is housed in a cheat package that is double the thickness of the light and contains 50% air.
MOUNTING FEATURES
Installation is problem within 2 minutes.
Down on the back are both connections for flat terminals (ie already wired and soldered standard terminals) and 2 holes for stripped cables, as is often the case with speakers. The connectors are well marked with white paint, the white cable belongs in the hole to the ground marking.
The mounting screws are located at 80mm spacing, but can be moved in slots on 50mm spacing.
Thus one is safe from surprises assembly and must not return the part and order different because you have not noticed (which is for example the case with the B & M Toplight supplied either as 50mm- or 80mm version ).
However, the connections are the other way than with B & M, maybe I caught an English model who make known the road everything is different. Then you should take good care, otherwise funktionniert nothing!
I would therefore have the power cables that come out of the Porter crossing, which does not look good, and also by the length was so close that I had to grow the tail light as high as possible and close to the cable outlets.
So, before you buy, whether its cables join the or long enough (the + cable to the right, the negative cable to the left, seen from the front) are.
Otherwise you will have extensions with luster terminals and attach it looks at the expensive Taillight Sch ... from!
FUNCTION
Otherwise the lamp meets all requirements oa (Wide Angle, Bright light, parking light ...).
It is extremely lightweight at just 85 grams and still makes a robust impression.
The entire white band around the central reflector lights red, which is much more than the top model from B & M and as broad as the porter.
The light is very bright and the sidelights funktionniert always, in contrast to the headlights, which can be switched off.
Once the headlamp to "zero" position gets the taillight no electricity.
For me, the tail light (or all tail lights of all bicycles) is connected to the headlights, more specifically they get the power by 2 cables from the spotlight.
This is at least 6 years since neufahrräder so that single-core power supply terminals on the rear fender that was forever broken, there is no longer a long time.
Because my headlights are equipped with light sensors and light which has the advantage, which is automatically controlled, the rear light and I have to worry about anything, so like a car or BMW motorcycle.
Previously the rim Dynamo has made a lot of resistance and noise. The modern low-friction dynamo from Shimano or Schmidt (SON) it does not matter whether the light is on or not, they have such a high efficiency, which you can not perceive the 3 W power in practice.
Lt. Amazon description has the part of a roadworthiness approval. For this purpose it would when running on my Shimano hub dynamos have a surge protector.
I could not know whether the light has this surge. The website of Philips is abysmal, the product is not listed, but the battery model twice. There is no technical information, only an image of the front. So you can not judge whether one receives renowned LEDs with long life, reasonable cooling and protective circuits for all that money. The remain well-protected trade secrets of Philips.
Nonetheless, the light does what it should and met my expectations. I know of no rear light, which radiates as a large lighting surface (max. Height and width), after almost 2 cm wider than the B & M and this round red band of light around the large reflector, which has what!
Therefore 5 stars.
I ordered more of it and would recommend it, of course.
Now you really know but everything about this rear light.
