Unfortunately this is not the same for the top screen. The 3D display is greatly affected by the protection and if you have the habit of leaving the cursor up, the image is split. Protection also makes them dull colors. So I removed that of high to keep only one of the touch screen, which is what you fear most scratches stylus.
An interesting product if you do not use 3D where very low power where if you want to protect the touch screen. The 2DS version must be an excellent product for 3DS but it's still way.
(Contrary to the generic package might suggest, it is indeed protections for New 3DS XL with a protection for each screen).
