Caution to use Mac OSX: the drive is formatted in FAT32, which is sufficient in most cases but to use it as a support or Time Machine will back up files larger than 4GB, it will format it to HFS + ( Mac file format). Steps for success 1 hit (valid for all drives, not just what Verbatim):
- Launch "Disk Utility" (in the "Applications" folder)
- Select your disk and go to the tab "Partition"
- Select "1 Partition" from the dropdown menu
- Click on Option and choose "Apple Partition Map"
- Click on "OK" and "Apply"
- Start the format ("Erase") and here is a beautiful disc ready to work best under OSX.
These information will not be of interest to advanced users, but for less accustomed ca can be helpful. The remark of 4GB also applies to Windows. In this case, format your drive to NTFS (config Panel -> Administrative Tools -> computer management -> Storage -> Disk Management -> Choosing your disk -> format -> NTFS -> validate)
Of course you will lose everything on the disk, including the supplied backup utility (but SyncBack is good too), so do those manipulation before using the disk under Windows ... Otherwise run the command 'convert E : / fs: ntfs where E is the drive letter from Start / Run. Normally, you will not lose anything.
