After unpacking, I immediately started a Nähversuch.
First thread wound on the spool quick, easy and error-free
Second thread by scheme and by inserting in needle threader needle threading easy, fast and error-free
I sewed a simple leatherette bag. Any running stitch types: Straight, Zigzag and Overlook were faultless and the stitch image looked good. Even the leatherette could easily be sewn up to the thickness at the corners 2-fold hem on both edges = 6 times the strength was to get only with difficulty under the foot, because the foot pressure is too strong.
Then my wife has the actual sewing, curtains and net curtains sewn. Again, it was found that the smooth curtain fabric is moved due to excessive foot pressure.
Only by fixing with pins moving must be prevented.
Here, the rate more than 20 hours of intensive sewing, all comparisons to our 33 years old VERITAS program zigzag sewing machine (model 8014/29).
Positives:
+ Solid mechanical zigzag sewing machine
+ German Manual in A4 format, large print, clear and easy to understand
+ Freiarmnähmaschine for sewing trouser legs and sleeves
+ 25 different stitch patterns changed in stitch length and width
+ Good stitch image of all stitch patterns
+ For transportation retractable spool holder (for 2 rolls of twine)
+ Sewing with twin needle possible
+ Threading the needle by means of a built-in needle threader easily
+ Transport handle, foldable
Negatives:
- Only dust cover (VERITAS: Stable transport and storage bag, after 33 years still ok!)
- Little accessories, only 3 presser feet (VERITAS: lots of accessories, including 6 different presser feet and a clip-on work desk, the larger the actual workspace to the left by 20 cm and to the front by 5 cm.)
- Weight 7 kg only machine in place while sewing heavy materials (VERITAS: 13 kg - no slipping of the machine)
- Foot-lever located unfavorably right under the sewing machine, with left hand unreachable (VERITAS: foot-lever behind the presser foot holder, easily accessible by left and right-hand side.)
- Presser foot lever only 1-stage latching, can be pressed by hand upward, but not locked (in the description as described 2-stage)
- Distance between the needle plate and presser foot only 5 mm, for thick fabrics too little (VERITAS: 7 mm) - press further up requires 3. Hand!
- Presser foot pressure, for smooth fabrics distortion or displacement of both fabric layers is too difficult to avoid
- Lighting not switched on separately, is always on (VERITAS: switch directly on the lamp)
. - Lighting the left and behind the presser foot needle presser foot in the shade (VERITAS: to the left of presser foot Needle & Sewing foot in the light.).
- The bulb replacement is only with a tool (screwdriver) possible (VERITAS: no tools required)
- To turn off the transport carrier a cover must be placed on the throat plate - this reduces the distance between the needle plate and presser foot to 3.5mm
- When VERITAS is lowered by a switch of carrier and lifted again during sewing possible!
- The reverse button is smooth, slippery and directed into the housing back down. When this button is pressed down, so it is at an angle of 45 ° down and slipping is easily possible
Conclusion:
The W6 N1235-61 is a solid mechanical sewing machine with a good stitch formation and perfectly adequate for everyday home use, although it is weakening against the 33-year-old sewing machine in some properties. The biggest deficiency I find in the lighting: 1. no separate Switches on and 2. the needle and the presser foot are in the shadow of the presser foot what is illuminated at any normal sewing machine.
For my wife, it is clear the old VERITAS will be repaired and it will sew it in the future. My wife appreciates the old VERITAS especially the good and separately switchable lighting, the higher weight and the additional clip-on desk.
The new sewing machine W6 N1235-61 we keep still, to be used by our subsidiaries, which also require from time to time.
PS .: The Original VERITAS sewing machines are long gone produces. The brand name "VERITAS", the company SINGER bought and machines now sold under this name have nothing in common with the original VERITAS sewing machines, neither design nor quality are the name.
Supplement for the prospective Nähmaschinentechnik:
Behind W6 hides the German sales company W6 VALUE WORK Engineering and Handelsgesellschaft mbH. Was made the W6 N1235-61 in Thailand. The actual manufacturer is the Japanese company JANOME (founded in 1921) with production sites in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
The W6 N1235-61 is a purely mechanical zigzag sewing machine, how it is produced for decades. All newer models of the company are JANOME Computerized sewing and embroidery machines, partly also with PC connection and the possibility to download embroidery patterns from the Internet JANOME.de.
