I am already since April 2014 so about 3 months, owners (and owners ^^) of Canon EF 300mm IS USM f4L and am very happy with it. At first I was concerned that the lens has an incorrect focus or out of focus, but when I look at my pictures I take a closer look, I note that the majority is very sharp! (The "blur" was otherwise only in the 100% view perceptible, so it was bleating at a high level).
But I was already photographing airplanes and cars, trains, people, animals, sports etc. The 300mm arise simply a super perspective and together with the exemption have all images "that certain something" and simply look fabulous! That's my opinion and many of my friends and relatives will agree.
I like that:
- Processing = madness! Beautifully made of metal, it fits comfortably in your hand, the focus ring runs pleasantly soft (although the element inside has to be huge), the switch clack clean ... just beautiful to look at and touch
- Focus = there is no completely ran to the 135mm f2 (at f2), but I put that on the shorter distance and the different motives ... I think it is sharp enough! If you photograph a car at about 50m, can be in 100% mode super read the license plate and with a little narrowed eyes even what is in the tag Temple)
- The built-in lens hood = they would not be as it is, I'd probably leave, to save space. But this design is just great, the aperture can simply pushes back and no one disturbs them. That it has as the objective is the same color (and not as usual: black) I also like it very much. From inside it is coated with felt.
- Exemption = F4 and 300mm are just a guarantee of exemption, no matter at what distance! the one can even overlook but I think it's great
- Macro function = to get very close to flowers etc. ran, together with the digital zoom later on the PC, you can make the macro lens at home
- Perspective (which indeed is not product specific, but I like especially to halt the 300mm)
- IS (I've never had, the viewfinder image is simply beautiful stable)
Neutral:
- Weight (it is very easy compared to the F2.8-Bro) - but that you know before
- IS is "loud" - you can hear a slight clunkers inside and a "zzzt" but that hardly bothers ... I find the sound cool, you know that you are working there: D
- IS runs on (about 2 seconds)
Negatives:
- Nothing
CONCLUSION: Who fixed focal lengths are and who is willing to take the money in hand, will not be disappointed. The lens is great fun and will make every now and then his place in the camera bag!
