For comparison, I used a Edifier S530 system. In short this: 2.1 of Edifier, much oomph, really great sound for the price.
First of all the design:
The Bose Companion 5 look great - I had as mentioned above, a S530 of Edifier. They were real bricks, the subwoofer was as large as the budget, ever-popular IKEA coffee table.
The Companion 5 can, however, be described as graceful. I'm much more from the optics of my workplace, therefore: For me absolutely the right choice. ME are devils systems rather ugly and have subwoofers in PC tower format. Absolutely unnecessary, as this Bose system proves. So no alternative to what I have now.
It's like writing a lot of users, brings out what incredible Bose from these little things. The fact that the speakers can be connected only via its own connection to the subwoofer does not bother me. I do not understand what some, the "audiophile" call there have to complain about. These are PC speakers that I would not be misused as Hi-Fi and intersect with who knows what amplifiers. Well, Bose has developed proprietary hardware here - but who has Apple devices, the bothers something no longer eh. As I said, I want to only connect to the PC, anywhere else.
Yes Gets the living room hi-fi system also something like the question.
The subwoofer hiding well under the desk and have individual controls for the bass / subwoofer. Preset to approx 1/3, sufficient.
For more flies only the wallpaper from the wall.
Furthermore: Nice that the system has a built-in "sound card", or as the jargon also likes hot. Connecting via USB and I could start right away. Well done, Bose.
So optics would be great if .. Yes, if the stand of small tweeter would not plastic.
400 (at least as designed by Bose) and then the plastic stand. I see. Anodized aluminum would have been much nicer. But I Gribble these things to not constantly, hence still alright.
For sound:
As individual as the taste for good music man is rare. Therefore, it makes - almost - no sense to describe the sound of the system.
Clearly, however:
Compared with the wood of the Edifier manage the little tweeters simply not an equally nice to produce a heterogeneous picture. However, it is getting close.
I have not expected.
Needless to say, however, create the Companion 5 is everything to play clean. I listen to a lot of "modern classicism" (eg The Piano Guys, great guys). Nevertheless, even pop / rock. So the radio level.
As a cellist, I ground myself in a reasonably clean hearing and am quite challenging.
Some Like Me Now "haten" because Bose's only selling overpriced crap - so be it.
The complex has a wonderful sound despite the small tweeter.
As some users, however, they can claim would take the 5.1 actually physically "behind" is still true, either living in a cardboard box and hear the echo of the posterior wall or work for Bose. Or do not want to see to have spent much money on 2.1.
Fact: Two speakers, a subwoofer. Power 2.1 because can the "5.1" as a marketing strategy absolutely change that. So, sound comes from the front and is really really great.
Who expects more should take up a real 5.1 system then Just.
I like the Bose Companion 5. If you want to have something small beautiful is fun, who buys these things.
The sound is great. Really.
Aaber. Who _nur_ have these speakers is (and any other hi-fi system), and then the moon expected, because they cost 400:
There are also other great speaker systems. For example, the Edifier S530. Or the S550, which then has genuine 5.1.
The bass are technically just completely exaggerated, much bigger and not so nice, but everyone should know what suits him more.
I give the Companion 4 stars because the envisaged 400 150 are too much.
The Edifier were slightly better, have tasted the same and were just too big to me. And yet, the Companion 5 stay here. Once the music stops, I want to do it again immediately.
