I use the tablet for car navigation and could on my old tablet and on my cell phone when the sun partially recognize almost nothing. The Venue infected sun just gone, everything is bright and clear. The screen can be seen perfectly in bright sunshine and even in an oblique top view. (Note: The Venue has no GPS I use for an external GPS, which do I pair with the Venue via Bluetooth.)
I have an HP parallel Stream 7 ordered because I wanted to see for navigation both sizes (my old tablet was a 10 inch set and that was definitely too large for the disc). Since I use the Tablet also to read, I have the Dell and the HP compared to the same resolution, the same program and the same PDF and found: The Dell delivers crisp letter, which is HP Stream 7 focus on the letter edges, thus exhausting to read.
The Dell screen is just great!
The handling with the fingers however 'well' takes some practice and is not always on the relatively small screen. I've been playing for the 'finer' work free Touch Mouse Pointer, so that I can now also perform fine motor work. Without this virtual touch pad, it is me, for example, almost never been able to move the explorer pane to today.
Unfortunately, the Windows button is missing on the front - Dell has the key attached to the margin next to the volume button - which is a bit cumbersome, so I almost never use the key but always go on the screen via the Windows Sidebar button. The stream 7 for example, the Windows key practically mounted on the front.
The tray has in the 32GB version, unfortunately, only 19.7 GB of free internal memory. The rest disappears in the system and on the recovery partition. After I installed all the programs (on the external SD card) remain just under 9 GB of free internal memory with me freely.
I had been thinking to outsource the recovery partition (8.79 GB) and delete, but I am already encountered when restoring the system backup on the problem that external media from Windows 8.1 are not accepted as a system recovery media. In addition, the power supply via the USB interface only runs so that USB stick and charging cable can not be connected together - and because there are difficulties in the restoration of the system. Overall, the recovery of the system with Windows-board resources is inadequate and to accomplish indirectly. I am sitting at the moment on my back is not a playable system backup on a USB stick and shy deleting the recovery partition, though I have swapped a copy on a USB stick. Although Dell provides its own recovery program available - which helps me with my Windows system backup but nothing. Overall, Dell would have here may be able to do something more to worry about the native recovery - although the problem is probably the cause in Windows 8.1.
1GB of RAM is not great - everything is more complex, takes a little. But frankly, I come from a few years old Windows tablet with Atom processor and what I see here, however, is lightning fast. The tablet runs on Dell probably under "bait and switch in the Dell World" and for the price under 90 the computer's performance is unbeatable. If you want more power, the Dell has the bigger Venue 8 models of the 5000 or 7000 series ... about three to five times prices.
Battery life is also adequate for my needs. Since the venue is loaded 8 via the USB interface, its own charger and therefore a special car charger omitted. What proves to be disadvantageous in the restoration, the loading operation is an advantage. I invite my Venue 8 with the same cable as my cell phone and the car simply via the USB charging socket.

Update and downgrade
Tablet after one month defective. After a few days ago when power is off in the charging mode weak-screen keyboard was seen yesterday the total failure. Screen suddenly black, the background is a slight flicker to see tray can no longer be switched on - after the flash of Dell boot logos the unit switches off immediately.
Fortunately, I have placed all my data on the external SD card - otherwise I could not even delete the data and put the tray in the original state.
Also lucky: Amazon exchanged the device easy.

Replacement is promptly arrived - good service from Amazon.

... And a few more additions to the system security, since it is me now succeeded the computer via a system image to restore.
A. Creating a system image:
1. Switch off Bitlocker or safeguard recovery keys externally. Bitlocker is only active if you have ever registered with its Microsoft account on the computer. In the normal login with name and password Bitlocker lurks in the background, the system hard drive but not encrypted. When restoring an encrypted system drive of the recovery circuits is interrogated. Who does not have the looks in the tube. I have Bitlocker therefore easily disabled.
Bitlocker can be found at: tile screen, right menu, Settings / PC settings / PC and device / PC info / device encryption
2. Create a system image (eg on SD card or external hard disk)
Control Panel / File Version History / system image backup
B. Restoring a system image
The restoration of a Removable Disk does not work! This means, SD cards, USB sticks, etc. are inappropriate. There are in the network, although several tips on how to outwit Windows with a Removable Disk I tried it several times and stayed stuck in the system. Tainted my opinion, too cumbersome and with risk.
The Dell Backup & Recovery Software works only in the premium version. The Basic version is very limited and does not allow the security of system images. The fuse must have been probably previously carried by the program. In my opinion, convenient but expensive and unnecessary.
Eventually I found out that the restoration with my external hard drive (Toshiba Stor.e partners, 1 GB) runs smoothly. So then I have done it:
1. Tablet fully load so that the computer does not during recovery due to power shortage fails.
2. Connect the hard drive with a USB adapter (microUSB B Male to USB-A connector) to the Micro-USB interface
3. tile screen, right menu, Settings / PC settings / update / restore / recovery / Enhanced Home
4. New Screen, Troubleshooting / Advanced Options / System Image Recovery
5. Restart the system (if necessary query the Bitlocker key), query the user account and password, Windows system image backup Select after selecting the image and optionally other settings start the recovery.
6. system reboots.
