I have my Fritz! Box 7170 replaced by 7270 to achieve the promised by the N standard greater reach at my house. For this course I had to use a N-capable wireless card in my laptop. I opted for the Gigaset PC Card 300. Both devices were of no use with your supplied drivers / firmware. I have, however, now quite well placed using the latest drivers for running the Gigaset card. The Fritz! Box also runs, but after 30-60 minutes it loses contact with the Internet (DSL synchronization persists). The current firmware did not improve with me. Yesterday I the laboratory firmware (a public beta version) partly filled and since then observed no disconnections. Overall, however, somewhat surprising that things worked without complaint in 7170, now suddenly cause problems. Why do I still 4 stars? Well, 7170 I would have given 5 stars because it is simply a class device. I use them (or now 7270) with all its functions: as a router is connected by cable to my PC and a Buffalo LinkStation. It also provides all devices Internet access. Then she's PBX to an ISDN line where a MSN analog and is powered by a different ISDN telephone. About election rules I run some outgoing calls (international and mobile networks) on my VoIP provider (Sipgate). Wireless then supplied even a notebook, a Wii and a Soundbridge. The DECT part of 7270 I use not because my Gigaset system that much better can. As the box is in the basement with us, I find the possibility to remotely control the box via the telephone, particularly noteworthy. We use the particular for the wireless switch on only when needed. Postive is still ease of use and great support. AVM provides firmware updates at very short intervals and works closely with the users. The hoped-for gain in range is unfortunately minimal. But the transfer rate is enormous even in bad reception! Overall, the transition for us has hardly worth it. However, I will use the 7170 as required as a repeater and so I then desired the complete coverage of our house / plot reached yet. I also hope that the DECT function is sometime so advanced that I can then replace our Gigaset base station.
Update as of 12.08.2010: For about a year I no longer own the Fritz box, since I use W for a move and shift to T-Home Entertain the Speedport 722V "must". Now I know the Fritz box only really appreciate! She ran perfectly with the later firmware versions and also the DECT part was excellent with Gigaset handsets!
