Customer Review

A great camera for my (!) Photo needs. About the capabilities of the 600D itself has already said enough. I would therefore like to explain here how I have decided, given the alternatives Canon EOS 1100D, 650D and Nikon D5100 for the 600D.

Preliminary to my background regarding. Photograph.

In short: There is no. I never had in my life an analog camera (dedicated) digital camera system camera, bridge camera, let alone a camera. My girlfriend has for several years now, the Canon EOS 550D. We quite often have yet to travel and I was tired of slow, particularly in view of their features, all the time with my Samsung Galaxy S II to make photos (admittedly not bad for simple snapshots), needed a clever camera. And since I am of the opinion, "If already, because already!", It had to be equal to a DSLR. Why DSLR? Of course, primarily due to the photo quality and lens exchange counter. Secondly - but not really less important - for taking pictures through the viewfinder. This is much faster and more intuitive, and is also just in very bright lighting conditions beneficial. Insanely fun it too! Also a great feeling conveys the feel of a DSLR-Body. You just feel something solid and technically advanced in the hand to have (admittedly a subjective criterion).

But I would call myself an enthusiastic amateur photographers, despite or perhaps because of my lack of knowledge. I have with much interest the Guide 550D by Galileo Verlag, the nearly 1: read is 1 applicable to the 600D, and may now - in practical terms - start with something like shutter speed, aperture, ISO, Bracketing, Metering etc.. I have no more than perhaps 50 images with Full Auto or Vari-Program made before I switched on Av / Tv / M. This is exactly what I like, too on the DSLR - the great design and influence.

600D vs. 1100D vs. 650D vs. Nikon D5100

Countless days I have spent before buying it, me between the 1100D, the deciding D5100 and the 600D.

Why I decided against the 1100D:

The 1100D's the entry-level model among DSLRs and by no means useless. On the contrary: From the image quality of her taking the 1100D and 600D (probably) not too much. So what speaks against the 1100D?

- The 600D has a much better, fold-out LCD screen (3 "with 1,040,000 pixels in 600D vs. 2.7" with 230,000 pixels for the 1100D), which is really convenient. You can take pictures, for example, also close to the ground or above the head without craning or need to guess completely. Due to the higher resolution and the greater degree to shot images can be better controlled.

- The 1100D has 12MP, the 600D has 18MP. Now is not soooo dramatic - MP are overrated and the more MP, the more likely there grds. Noise - but it still has more reserves for Use Crop.

- The 1100D has no automatic sensor cleaning. Incidentally, no mirror lock (not so important to me).

- The feel. The 1100D has no rubberized surfaces like the 600D. I must say that I would do without the very reluctantly. One must not underestimate the importance of haptic with a DSLR. Somehow a part must indeed be well over the years in your hand and feel good.

Why I decided against the D5100:

I had also thought about me the Nikon D5100, which cost almost as much zuzulegen. From the picture quality it is supposed to be even a bit better than the already excellent 600D, especially in high ISO performance.

Contra D5100, however:

- The usability. It can not be so nice to directly access the camera features such as the Canon and the menu is not as user-friendly single axle / fast. I must admit, I had the D5100 not in your hand (you should normally always all eligible products in your hand !!). Have me as very informative videos watched, who compared the two cameras directly.

- A few tiny benefits for 600D: larger viewfinder, favorable aspect ratio of the LCD (there is the whole area for the Live View used and the data is drübergelegt semi-transparent; in the D5100 is below a black bar with the data that is not used for image display is)

Ultimately, I was due to the simple fact that my friend already had the 550D and the filter and manual, opted for the 600D. Also in view of future joint lens purchases. I would therefore consider it in the absence of "Commitment" very good, though I may not yet reach the D5100 - go wrong but you do it with certainly none of the two! It is in fact primarily a question of what a better "Like"!

Why not send back the 600D and it go get the 650D:

No question, the 650D is better than the 600D.

- The 650D has 9 cross-type AF sensors, of which the central one dual cross sensor, so (from f2.8) also can detect diagonal lines. This corresponds to the AF system of the 60D! The 600D has, however, the AF system of the 5D Mark II, ie 9 sensors, of which only the central one ("normal") is cross-type sensor. However, this is precisely from f2.8.

Sure, better AF system is nice to have. But mandatory? In no me, since I do not do a lot of sports or action photography.

- The 650D has a higher number of images yoy rate of 5B / s. 3.7B / s.

Again, this is bearable for me because of the predominance of landscape and portrait photography.

- The 650D has a touch screen that can probably use super. This is probably just the like switching from digital cameras interest, who want at least initially photographing with Live View.

I personally do not mind the operation with the buttons. After a while you will anyway mostly everything about the wheel a while (still) looking through the viewfinder.

- The Live View AF in the 650D is faster (but still not competitive with the mirrorless).

I use hardly the LiveView and if they do, do not bring me the somewhat slower AF at the 600D to. There is also still the Live View Quick Mode.

- The 650D has continuous AF in video mode.

I never make practical videos and in between for the spontaneous rotation, the 600D is indeed more than well equipped.

- The 650D has three new multi-exposure modes (Handheld Night Scene, HDR and noise reduction), which conjures up a finished picture of several shots and probably quite convincing. This also helps the higher continuous shooting speed.

These modes I find interesting, no doubt. However, is (also) this is merely a convenience feature is also the final images -. At least in the HDR mode - very soft. On PC you could manage this better. Who is already so far and wants to deal with HDR and recognizes in which scenes it is advantageous for it in my opinion is not a big step for post-processing of RAW files on the computer. And there can be rausholen generally much more. It should be remembered in this regard that in the modes of 650D neither the frames nor the finished image in RAW format will be saved. The in-camera processing also takes just under 10 seconds which the modes are unlikely to come to the continuous use. The 600D can, however, thanks to easily create images bracketing series for HDR. Also, tests have shown that the HDR mode 650D operates at the most only 1 to 1.5 eV (f-stops), while the bracketing offering up to 2 EV. Ultimately, therefore these features are nice, but not a knock-out criterion against the 600D.

For whom about 150 extra cost 650D is nothing, of course, can access with a clear conscience to the 650D. The additional cost is certainly justified (better AF, higher fps, touchscreen, hybrid AF / continuous AF in video mode). Who makes a lot of sports and / or action photography or filming a lot, should even resort to 650D. For everything else, the 600D is just as well. The image quality is also at least as good as with the 650D.

CONCLUSION

The 600D makes great pictures and just plain fun!

So, I hope I was able to hereby make a meaningful, helpful contribution.

Regards

PS: I had as a trainee a little look on a budget. Property me therefore the Canon 50mm 1.8 II and the Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro to start supplementing the kit lens - both for each not even quite 100, - - fetched. And have to say that I'm completely satisfied with it at least for now. At the 50mm think I need nothing more to say. With the Sigma can be done with the correct settings in reasonably good light also great images and the Macro 1: 2 function is also convincing.

- UPDATE 31.12.2014 ---

I was very pleased with the long-600D more than a year. The Sigma 70-300 I sold again as needed without image stabilization are set too high for my taste already in cloudy weather the ISO. I have it replaced by the highly acclaimed Tamron 70-300 with "hard nail-Bar" - and have not yet repented. Furthermore, I have the kit lens replaced initially by the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.0 C and later by the Sigma 17-50 2.8 (the Contemporary now takes on another camera application; it is to use well). As a wide-angle I have gained me the really great Sigma 8-16.

As you can see me so the DSLR-fever has packed. And it happened as it had to: I have just gained the 70D as a new body. The 600D is an excellent camera in its segment, no question. In some places, but then I wanted to more long-term. For the following reasons I have ultimately changed:

- The 8 line sensors of the 600D are unfortunately anything but reliable. I used throughout only the central cross-type sensor (the so is as good as the middle sensors of the higher category, Canon) and have as needed "recomposed", so if the cross-type sensor could not focus, the camera swung something, so that he at a sufficiently konstrastreichen place is that correct exposure guaranteed in about (in Evaluative Metering). In difficult situations, but this was an incorrect exposure resulted because of the picture, with whom I had focused and gemetered (Evaluative Metering is at this saved both, if one half presses the shutter!), Overall had a very different light. Sure you may at any time correct the exposure or sometimes use partial / Spot Metering. But basically Evaluative Metering is a fine thing and I want this mode actually always maintained except in real extreme situations. With the additional 18 cross-type sensors of the 70D, I can much more likely to find a focal point in actually intended image section which engages and then actually ultimately the selected area completely flows into the metering with. Furthermore, the constant recomposen hampered with exposure checking and, if necessary. Correction workflow.

- Of course, I hope even at actionshots a much better tracking .. that was really with the AF system of the 600D is not so simple. Although I'm still not so many such photos, but for the few occasions one wishes but then, that the camera can join the. Given that can really great photos come out :-) In this context, the 70D offers course regarding the much larger buffer, the 7fps, supporting faster UHS-1 SD card and settings. AF tracking more decisive features. Very nice also the AF-ON button on the 70D purpose BackButton Focusing.

- What personally also very motivated me to change to 70D, there was the existing electronic level, because I suffer from extreme HLDS (Horizon Level Deficiency Syndrome)!

- The Live View is much more useful due to the much faster AF, especially in FlexiZone-Single mode. Then feels as fast as the ordinary phase AF. Along with the Touch-to-focus make taking pictures in LiveView now a lot of fun! When 600D I LiveView only be used if it does not help went (shooting at ground level, etc. on the head). Otherwise, the focus 3-4s time were just too long.

- Who knows, maybe I will anyway times turn one or the other movies and because the 70D with the Dual AF pixels is unrivaled.

Ultimately simply offers the 70D more comfort, also because of the shoulder displays, the excellent touchscreen, the C mode, the extra buttons / wheels. Do we need all this? Everyone needs to answer for themselves. It will simplify my workflow, saves me a little post-processing and has a clearly superior AF system. Personally, I was worth the extra cost.

A better picture quality you can at the 70D by the way did not expect, maybe a little more pleasing noise performance at higher ISOs. But you do not need my opinion, because already in the 600D, the quality is very good.
