As I have previously only been used for underwater, I left the settings on the Scene Mode "underwater", meaning the correct white balance was equal regulated.
The operation under water is very good if you get used to the low pressure of the trigger point.
The display is to be regarded quite well under water, if not exactly sunlight falls directly on it. Then you have to hold the camera before the eye.
But usually I had held the camera at arm's length in the depth and "hands-free" it happening snapped (because I could not dive as well).
The hand strap is the way to all four corners of the camera can be locked, so you can choose the right for themselves cord attachment. The wrist strap can be fixed with the cord stopper so that a slipping out of the hand of the loop is not possible - so no fear of loss when the camera glides times out of hand.
Since this course is a compact camera, one should not expect permanent results in the professional segment. As generally in photography depends underwater up everything on available light. The system flash can forget about underwater because it is too close to the lens and is flashed suspended the picture more disturbing in the water, as the lightening brings a profit.
However, the image quality for the asking price is still convincing!
An underwater housing for my SLR would have at least 1.500, - Euro cost, which is more than an opportunity for unprofitable use.
I also liked the underwater video with sound option.
Unfortunately, the auto focus is not tracked - but that can get over themselves, because the memories are through the moving images of household is more than adequate living.
The battery I have changed daily, because nothing is worse than weakens during a snorkeling tour of the battery.
The remaining battery indicator, so when things get to the end and red, holds astonishingly long time. But there is hardly anything worse than an empty battery pack, if you already have a UW camera with and just a whale shark at one passes by.
Likewise, I have bathed the camera after each snorkel gear for 1-2 hours in a bowl with fresh water and then dried.
From Korossionen described on the contacts I have found nothing and the flaps (battery and card) were Wore tight.
Conclusion:
The Canon D10 is a good underwater camera for the Gelegenheitsschnorchler (or diver).
The acquisition is worth for those who do not already have a good compact camera and thus need only a UW housing or for whom the cost of a UW-housing are too high. Depending on the camera, the price of a UW-housing may exceed the camera price many times over.
Of course, the Canon D10 is not just an underwater camera.
The water resistance, the shock resistance, the Schüttelresistenz and not least the ability to use at temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius making it a faithful companion for outdoor activities.
I will continue to have, despite the SLR case, because there is always time situations, where life is a little harder and the material is exposed to greater stresses.
Here, the Canon D10 is in her element.
