If you read in foreign languages Ebooks, especially English and Spanish, then the Kindle by Amazon Shop terms of simplicity and ease of use is currently hard to beat.
I have struggled all Weihnachstwochenende to find a simple alternative to the Amazon Store. In German and English eBooks This dates quite well. But in Spanish it is confusing. The highlight was a Spanish provider, where you can not even download the book (online reading program ...). Again, Amazon is currently the most complete shop emotionally (eg JRR Tolkien "El Hobitt" HP Kerkeling "Bueno, me largo"), what I want to do have construed as a compliment, but also as an incentive for other suppliers .....
Why alternative to Kindle? The Kindle is great as a unit and its interaction with Amazon's nearly unbeatable. But the lack of compatibility with EPUB, etc. is rather tedious. Also conversion programs like Calibre not work here because of DRM locks.
It is here, however, to the Sony Reader, ie:
+ Lightweight, stylish device
+ All currently on leave from aluminum housing. The white plastic is still very beautiful!
+ Easy to use (I'm a technology layman; therefore an important criterion!)
+ Great and clean contrast, no Ghost schemes
+ Web browser works very well
+ Touch function is one of the best on the market
+ Stylus / Pen is also quite pleasant
+ USB cable is included (USB MicroUSB)
+ Sensational Weight
+ Memory expansion with MicroSD
+ Easy download, if you take has the DRM authorization (see below)
+ Many formats such as EPUB, TXT, PDF, etc.
+ Wifi works great (here: with 3WebCube)
+ Original bag of Sony with reading lamp (not included, but schweineteuer) fits perfectly, noble, robust!
~ Dictionaries: There are two types (1 meaning of English words in the English language; 2. for translations), which always quite good English to Spanish example should-English, English-Spanish. So positive is the existing installation with the emphasis that Kindle is not much better (eg Collins Concise Spanish-English Dictionary with just 230,000 terms). Here the market is in transition, so it will surely be even better. Genial, however, the educational potential if my kids read English books and can translate single words by simply clicking! So does reading foreign texts suddenly fun !!!
- Screen layout partly flighty, especially within the web browser; because it is nervous.
- Reader Store from Sony not in operation
- My Kindle books I can .... (but I knew that beforehand)
- EReader must be charged via PC and USB cable. No regular charging cable.
Conclusion:
The Sony PRS-T1 Sony builds on the technology of previous generations of eReaders. Thus, we have a small, rugged and reliable device that you can buy with a clear conscience and recommend. For my problems with Spanish-language books and the greater ease of Kindle and the Amazon Store I draw from today's perspective, from a rating Star.
4 stars
PS: Without DRM authorization of the eBook Downloads usually do not function. As a layman, I had to learn that first. The best on the PC (not eReader!) Install the Sony Reader software (eg from German Sony website). So not already done so, the next Adobe DRM install (including authorization key / key) and connect the Sony eReader with USB cable to the PC. With the DRM authorization of the PC automatically, the authorization of the eReaders. Downloading works thus.
PPS: The Sony Reader software is not just awesome, but it helps when you sync the eReader and the PC. That's good, because the downloading of eBooks is comfortable on the PC, and you will indeed transfer the books on the eReader.
PPPS: The Sony Reader software on the PC can also (see settings) automatically check for new firmware versions and installs them on the eReader. Worked perfectly.
PPPPS: I have included a comparison to the Kindle 4 and Kindle Touch as a comment of my reviews.
