The story about the family "Krupp" is told here in the 1st part of Bertha. The "old" Bertha is played by the unequivocally great Iris Berben. The "young" Bertha, however, Valerie Koch. And that must be the 15 year old Bertha play in this episode. And that affects a woman who is over 40, then in my view, something unbelievable. As one might have to take a younger woman. But the "middle-aged" Bertha, however, it plays back perfectly: Dogged and relatively joyless and utterly subject to the family traditions.
The story begins with the "old" Bertha and her son Alfried. Alfried stands his life under the thumb of his mother. Bertha introduces more than tight ship. Alfried has never been able to stand up to his mother, but she has always impressed him that he always and at all times the best has its needs and to be and above all: A Krupp - namely through and through.
And finally, as a grown man, he dares his mother to tell the opinion. Bertha is totally irritated that he protested suddenly and throws her all Pent to the head. Prompt she felt faint and he will never see again.
From your bedroom, sickly and weak, she then tells the young maid Anna the whole story. Anna should be young and fresh love, it is played by Franziska Schlattner. There is no doubt also a good actress, but rather as a mature woman in the Garmisch-Cops. Also it is with their age, in my view a clear miscast. But, so be it. If one can not be put off by many a miscast, the film turns out to be true masterpiece. Of course, supported by an ever-present Iris Berben.
As Bertha she then told her maid of her childhood. Her mother, Margaret, educates children after a rigorous control system. The father is hardworking and a bright guy, but he takes his time out repeatedly on Capri. Supposedly, the healthy air for. The rumor comes on quickly, that he leaves it there with young men go.
Whether this rumor is something in it or whether it's just a calumny? Bertha anyway learns about the secret of her father savory and must therefore live, what's hard for her ...
Me have touched the Krupps definitely a story of a successful German family, but also have to pay a price for this success. A history of severe family circumstances, of mother-son conflicts, mystery and sometimes dirty business ...
