1. Sound
While this does not contradict the sound professional, but "only" the average consumer, I could sound the listener but convincing in any case. I'll make it short. After my laienhaftem feeling the MDR1 sound neither neutral, nor manipulated. I have the sound perceived as balanced and not, as often happens when stupid bass hammers. Sounds all not cheap.
2. comfort
As for the comfort when wearing, I was not entirely happy. The listeners sit comfortably actually, pleasant material (probably leather), for my head is a perfect pressure (but for jogging bout nothing; on the edge). So if you over-ear's like here should not be disappointed .. if not for the slightly inclined installed drivers that, even sometimes can have contact with your eavesdroppers depending on the ears of the wearer. Bothered me at first, but I realize now no longer.
3. Processing
So far, top, still like new. The folding of the shells is very convenient for the down payment. For everything else I would, however, also very disappointed in the price. Carrying the handset even in light rain to see from close and have (at least for now) still taken no harm.
4. Optics
The appearance of the handset is great if it's done to me. Over Ear's are generally not as my case as to brawny. The MDR1 doing one exception. The color balance is also kept simple, good decision.
Yet what way short. One thing which I'll never get used to is that the cable (which incidentally does not work with old iPod Classic's - shame!) Every little physical exercise transported directly into the skull at a lower noise level; a bit annoying, but hopefully better once the many clothes in spring are unnecessary.
