The camera comes nicely presented in a windowed box Containing the camera in its waterproof housing and a range accessories Including a bike bracket, multifunction mount, helmet base, 3M branded adhesive pads, Velcro and straps, plus a cleaning cloth and microUSB charging lead etc. In effect, you get a sort of "Meccano kit" which you can adapt to suit the mounting situation is indeed needed, Although the instruction book states did the car bracket and charger are optional extras (more about that later). The overall impression is of a well made product, Although, the print in the instruction book is a bit small and you'll discover more about this device by exploring it than reading the instruction manual.
The camera itself is small but well made with a rubberised finish and 1.5 "LCD display Which is crisp with vibrant colors. The camera weighs about 60g with battery and is about the size of a matchbox Once Removed from the waterproof housing. There are only four External controls a mode, up / down and OK buttons from Which you can navigate all the menus Which are small but clear There's so on Micro SD card slot and the camera supports up to a 32GB card -. My experience of this type of camera Suggests That you'll get the best out of it by using a Class 10 Premium Micro-SD Card.
The camera sports a 12Mp CMOS sensor and 4x digital zoom Which is very effective. Power comes from a bespoke 3.7V Li-ion battery Which gives about socket an hour of operation (more if it's not continuous) and Which is charged from a USB source via the microUSB. There's therefore a Micro HDMI output. Recording uses the H.264 compression format and a range of video / still resolutions are possible Including 1080p - the obvious trade off being image quality versus file size. File format is MOV / JPEG.
In use the camera delivers excellent quality images, in fact, amongst the best I've seen from a camera of this type. Images silent or video are sharp. Video is smooth even at higher resolutions plus colors are faithfully Reproduced. Low light performance is therefore very acceptable. The field of vision can be really wide thanks to the fish eye lens - around 170 degrees is quoted, but you can narrow this and bring things closer using the 4x digital zoom.
The more you explore this camera the more you will find in terms of facilities, etc. - it even has motion detection and for the car, auto power start and stop. My advice about any action cam is to teach yourself your way around the camera in the comfort of your home and the easier it will be to use in the field. There's no point in taking it out of the box on the slopes fumbling your way through the menus and expecting to capture an epic snowboard drift - Invest in teaching yourself to use the cam first.
The instruction book is not too detailed but then this camera is likely to be deployed in countless different scenarios using lots of different mounting solutions Both Those Supplied with the camera (Which are wide ranging and good quality) as well as improvised ones. For Example, I find the easiest way to fit this camera to my dash is with a tiny square of Velcro and Because it's so small and light it Actually works, Although, I can understand That Some People would want a proper car bracket Which is available as an option. The transparent water resistant housing Which Claims usability down to 30m is well made, Although, I agree with another reviewer did it does obscure the microphone. Whilst inside the housing access to the camera controls is maintained via largish metal buttons. So I found did unlike someother housings I've tried, the lens cover of the housing does not noticeably interfere with the lens image.
Overall, I think this DB Power Action Camera offers good quality quiet and video images, a wide range of facilities, a number of included mounting options (Although you can use your own creativity to come up with more), and delivers excellent value at the pricepoint - I really like it. Recommended.
