I initially chose this model because I was very happy already with the optical performance of its predecessor. After the package was used to quickly supplied by Amazon, my joy was great. The processing is again significantly better than its predecessor. The focal length setting and the focus ring have a very pleasant feel, as well as the ergonomic switch for auto focus and image stabilizer. Autofocus and image stabilizer is working properly. Two negative points led me to return the lens yet. The arrangement of the focus ring and zoom ring is exchanged. The focal length setting on the lens end I felt as impractical with increased risk of camera shake. The crucial point, however, is the pronounced focus breathing. This is demonstrated by the fact that the effective focal length near objects clearly reduced ... say ... I have to get closer to the object to the same image. I have but then decided to go for the 70-200 2.8L IS II USM Canon. Here is the focus breathing much lower, the auto focus is more precise and the processing even better. The image quality of the old Tamron, the new Tamron and the new Canon are very similar to differ in direct comparison hardly. Anyone who wants to buy a 70-200 2.8 and can live with the properties mentioned here, get a great lens for much less money than the Canon.
