First, good news, it is certified MFI (Made for iPhone). This means concretely that it will always work even with future versions of iOS.
After unpacking we find:
- The hull 2400mAh
- A translucent outline
- A black outline (smoked)
- A USB cable / USB Micro
- A headset adapter
- Instructions for use
The hull is provided with a lightning port. It is compatible, as specified in the title, only with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S.
The battery, placed on the back of the iPhone is a beautiful charcoal gray finish. 4 LEDs are arranged on this one, right next to the power button to inform us at any time of the battery's charge state. Essential for not taking a stroll with an almost empty battery.
Always at the back, above, an opening is provided for photo / video sensor and flash. The opening is very neat with nice curves and extends over the entire width of the iPhone.
The contours are themselves rigid plastic. 2 contours are delivered with battery: a translucent and the other smoked. They are positioned around the iphone and go to clip on the battery. These are clipped very easily and I wonder if they are not likely to "jump" in case of impact. I will not make Crash Test with my precious LOL, but I think Anker would rather use soft plastic contours (shock) genre Apple bumper. This would have to include a bit more iPhone and battery, do not have simple clips and avoid these 2 elements from separating in crashes. To see the long but, at first glance, everything seems very robust except these 2 plastic contours. Why I take a star.
At the bottom of the hull, Anker has scheduled two openings to let the sound of the iPhone. Fortunately otherwise we would have lost volume and its lights. I even have the impression that the sound is better with the shell is directly returned to us. Good point ;-)
On the lower portion of the shell, an opening allows access to the jack port (helmet) iphone and an adapter is provided for through the lower part of the battery and "fetch" the jack port of the iPhone. That said, this adapter is not required if using the original Apple headset comes with the iPhone. This is fine enough to pass through the hole provided for this purpose is to connect the iPhone with no problem. Good point ;-) useful adapter for any type of helmet.
On the left spine, report volume + and volume - and smaller aperture to pick the lock switch. On the edge of the above deferral iPhone power button.
In terms of dimensions, the whole is relatively compact 13.7 x 6.2 x 1.7 cm
It takes a good centimeter in height, 4 mm in width and multiply by 2 the thickness of the iPhone. That said, there are 2 times more autonomy and it is still possible to slide the iPhone and its battery in his pocket (Ca goes smoothly). In weight, 77g is added to the iPhone, which makes the switch from 132g to 209g approx.
The grip of the iPhone in its new shell is rather pleasant. No gene in handling of the iPhone.
Now to battery operation. A long press on this button on the back enables the iPhone's load (the battery LEDs will then light up to give us the current state of charge of the latter). They switch off a few seconds later (not to waste energy). A short press allows you to check at any moment the battery charge status. A long press will stop it. Note: You can charge the battery and the iPhone simultaneously. Another good point.
The USB / Micro USB cable supplied measuring 60cm, it is sufficient to charge the battery from a computer but too short if you want it on a wall formwork USB charger. A cable of a twenty meter (twice) would have been perfect.
The expense for the iPhone is as fast as the original Apple charger. Indeed, the current delivered by the battery is 1A, which is strictly the same as the Apple charger supplied with the iPhone 5 / 5S.
To conclude, this battery filled his role perfectly, quickly charging the iPhone, aesthetically successful, I just blamed plastic frames that seems fragile and not very "anti shock" and a USB cable a little short. Otherwise, overall, it's a great way to recharge your iPhone during long train ride, plane or during long hikes or camping during which it is impossible to find an outlet to recharge our precious!
Congratulations Anker ;-)
