Unfortunately, the installation of the new SSD was not so easy in my unit. Included are Torx screwdriver type T5 and P5. The manual provides that the secured with three screws Battery cable should be disconnected. Unfortunately, the included screwdriver were too small for the screws of the battery cable. I have the SSD then changed with the battery disconnected, but this is not recommended also went and can cause a short circuit!
After successful conversion, the SSD is a very good performance. The Blackmagic Speed Test (available free on the AppStore), the data transfer performance when reading with 480 MB / s, while writing with approximately 400-420 MB / s is specified. These are good to very good values for a SATA SSD.
Please note:
============
- Due to new chips on these SSDs all SSD models that have a smaller total capacity than 480 GB are writing considerably slower !!! This is also in the Amazon product description!
Previously, this gap in achievement to find total capacity of less than 256 GB. Due to higher memory density per chip has that now changed. For this reason, the full data transfer capacity of Jetdrives is only given as models with at least 480 GB total capacity!
- The conversion of the old SSD in the external housing will point to the continuous power loss in this SSD. Apple does not support the performance-enhancing TRIM command for SSDs connected via USB. Only SSDs, which are connected via Thunderbolt, hold on a permanent full power! The JetDrive USB enclosure has only a USB port (USB2 / USB3).
- JetDrive Toolbox
The supplied program JetDrive Toolbox shows the "wear out Indicator", ie the percentage of operating time to probable failure of the SSD on. Background: every SSD manufacturer gives for its devices for the amount of written data, the chips and thus go the SSD broken. Many SSDs indicate this on the "wear out Indicator". This indicator should be taken seriously in any case !!! Achieved the "wear out Indicator" about 10% should definitely replace the SSD, since the early failure of the SSD is likely. I am very glad for this reason that this tool will be offered for download at Transcend. The failure of a single memory chip lead at one SSD to the final loss of all stored data! A repair as with a hard disk is not possible! For this reason, a good backup is particularly important for SSDs. So the best the Time Capsule order now with :-)
Conclusion:
====
Apart from the matter of the battery cable, I can recommend the JetDrive upgrade kit. Thanks to the supplied USB enclosure to transfer the complete operating system incl. All the data from the old to the new SSD a breeze and is done in a few minutes. After the reconstruction of the SSD Mac starts then immediately back to life again and everything is there without installation orgy. The SSD is very fast. The upgrade kit is low.
Maybe one should have a T6 screwdriver Torxy dazubestellen (I hope that fits, I can not promise).
