Since I'm the biggest techie not necessarily and am overwhelmed vastly with the most technical terms, I do not want too much go into technical jargon, but rather on how I can cope with the reader and what possibly could still be better.
Very important to me was at my reader that the battery lasts a long time and I have a great memory. This is given en masse at the Sony Reader. When WLAN is off, the battery will last about a month, but even if this is to .epub files with PDF files, the battery can even be faster yet. If Wi-Fi is enabled, the battery will last still about 3-4 weeks, which I think is perfectly adequate. When I look at the other hand, many a reader who just has a battery life of 8-12 hours, I will be very different.
The integrated memory capacity is 2 GB, which corresponds to about 1200 Ebooks, however, this may also vary depending on the file format. Should this be achieved 2GB times, there are fortunately still the MicroSD card slot, by an additional memory card fits into that, however, is not included in the accessories.
The general data
Red Color
Width: 11 cm
Height: 17.3 cm
Depth: 0.9 cm
Weight: 168 grams
Touchscreen: Clear IR Dual Touchscreen
Screen size: 15.2 cm, or 6 inches
Resolution: 800 x 600
Also very important to me was the weight of the reader. I never leave the house without my readers, he must not be too heavy and hardly noticeable in the handbag best. Because the Sony Reader weighs just 168 grams, I am very satisfied, because it weighs much less than many paperback.
The eBooks can be quickly and easily transmitted especially to the Reader, you need to connect only the cable with the laptop and the reader together and you can copy them in the "Reader for PC" and synchronize. The "Reader for PC" is very easy to install, which again is an additional plus point for me. Also ebooks that I borrow from my eLibrary, can be easily transferred to other readers, this is unfortunately not the case.
Are Ebooks once on the Reader, you can start very quickly with the reading. The books can be arranged well, so I have every Ebook far found rather quickly. While this is also very fast with the search, but I prefer the various sorts. The books can be read arrange by date, title, author, file name or last. I usually prefer the date or "Read last". The book was read last is always visible on the home page, so you only have to touch this, so that it opens again. Directly below you will find the last three books that have been recently added.
By division "Collections" you have the possibility to arrange the Ebooks again additionally by these placed into new folders. So I've created additional folders which are sorted by genre.
The ebook itself can be opened in just 1-2 seconds, while it is of course once again on the format. A PDF file can also already take longer, but even with a minimal time difference. Since you can freely change the font size at any time, any Ebook is very easy to read and I had in any file format to date any problems. However, one must at from PDF files and even specify the highest level, so that the particular book is easy to read. The pages can also be turn over very quickly, this can be done either via touch function or with the two arrows that are located below the Reader. Also graphics can be loaded quickly, so the reading fun does not suffer.
The Sony Reader can however not only read, but also listen to audiobooks. The reader supports MP3 and AAC files, so you can also go at any time to listen to music or enjoy Audiobooks. Also video and photo files can be quickly and easily saved. The Reader supports the image formats JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP.
A big advantage is in addition to the weight, the optics and the quick and easy Read the handiness. The Reader fits comfortably in your hand, has a pleasant weight and easy to operate. One must not hold convulsively the reader in hand here. Mostly I've only ever in one hand and can operate it without any problems him.
However, there are also a few minor points:
The lacquer coating is unfortunately off too fast. In spite of good treatment the color starts with me after just four months to crumble, what really should not be. Although these traces are minimal, but very ugly.
For this purpose I lack at the reader light to be able to read in the dark. While this supports the Kindle and other readers do not, but this would have been something I would have very much wanted. So I have also with a reading light (Kandle by Ozeri Flex) to make do. While this is very good, but it often acts like a foreign body.
Somewhat annoying is the fact that the Reader Store in Germany is not yet available. This has already been announced for spring 2012, however, this is still not available, which makes spontaneous ebook purchases quickly dashed.
Despite these three gripe I am completely satisfied with my Sony Reader and lay it mostly very reluctant of his hands. Although I prefer "real" books still, I want my little readers not to miss, because eBooks are in my opinion the future.
I can understand if readers oppose Ebooks and hold dear books in paper form in the hands, but you also have to remember that you can put more than 1,200 books in just 168 grams. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also significantly less space. Ebook readers will love the reader. :)
