Now, where is my problem? The author has tried to write the book as a dramatic novel. To this end, the book begins by pointing out that dialogues have so never occurred, shortened temporal sequences and the story has been dramatized. Although the author then seeks to emphasize that all the substantive facts are true in spite of everything, that bothers me enormously but this approach. It leaves simply one of the famous "Fake" -Eindrücke whose one anywhere else now encountered on TV and to satisfy. The topic is exciting enough that it would have in the (more appropriate) as a pure property book can be told. In the book finally coming non-artificially-dramatized "flashbacks" in front (for example, is the origin and history of Nintendo in a separate chapter excellently told), and here the author proves that he can write such an exciting book.
As a counterexample, I would like to "The Ultimate History of Video Games" and "Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered The World" mention, which are at least as exciting and do without artifices with aftertaste. In fact, I would observe the reading of these books (especially "Game Over", as it does just before the act of Console Wars and in great detail the rise of Nintendo describes) BEFORE Console Wars recommend - it makes some (like the influence Ataris on the world in which Nintendo and Sega to the greats of Business are) only really clear and prepares an excellent foundation and framework in which much is still much more understandable and easier to digest. An ideal order for the maximum wow factor would allow the "Ultimate History", followed by "Game Over", followed finally by "Console Wars".
But the content of Console Wars himself is beyond all doubt. It tells the story of the NES game consoles during the period up to the Playstation. The author shows that the fight Sega vs. Nintendo was a lot more exciting still, as one might have thought. And to this day lasting effect felt. The author succeeds outstandingly the strengths and weaknesses of the elaborate "Duelist": Was Nintendo about a Vetriebsgenie, so the climb was Sega's especially a lesson of effective and fearless Marketing. However, not only Nintendo and Sega Treat - names like Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Atari etc. fall. In particular, the role Sony has surprised me a lot and the game world would at several place today may look a lot different (the Playstation as a last resort of a failed collaboration with Nintendo). In addition to the history of the video game systems yet obtained then the one or the other wonderful flashback in an unexpected direction of the 80s and early 90s. Not only technology but also culture theme of the book.
For those who know what it means either Nintendo or Sega (both finally did not) to have been, and are interested in (game) history, this book is therefore a must buy. More details, backgrounds and insights on the history of consoles from the NES to the Playstation can be found anywhere on the subject - though I would have liked me even now and then about one more detail more (why, for example, the 3DO now failed accurately.? ).
A point (unfortunately half is not), I prefer in the end from but because the artificial dramatization of the facts has produced a slightly bitter aftertaste with me personally. Although I certainly do not trust the pure facts in the book and much appears in a new, illuminating light.
