1. If you want to have the highest possible image quality, there is no way to pass lenses with fixed focal length. And that is, rumschleppen a heavy sack of many expensive lenses with them.
2. In minor degradation in the picture quality you get with 3-4 zoom lenses from (depending on the desired zoom range). This too is a weight factor for longer trips.
3. And you have to be aware that one is constantly busy with changing lenses and the ingress of dust is unavoidable in the camera.
4. If you want to save yourself all that and go pack light when traveling, actually only the handle remains at a Super / Mega zoom lens. And of course the willingness to compromise on image quality.
5. As a result, then really remains only opting for a plan Always lens with a zoom range 18-200 / 250 mm.
6. However, it is a misconception to think that you have a little bit of getting more quality with super zoom lenses original camera manufacturer. The test results say otherwise.
I opted for the Sigma 18-200 and deliberately omitted to the Sigma 18-250, because the Sigma 18-200 at the telephoto end has 200 mm in the corners and edges of an image with higher resolution than the Sigma 18-250 with 250 mm. In addition, the 18-200 is significantly lighter than the 18-250. And in extensive photo tours every gram counts, especially in many countries in Africa / Asia with high temperatures.
For the mechanical quality of the lens, I can only express positive. As for the optical quality I can say that it fully met my expectations and deserves a 'highly recommended'.
I do not make pictures for shoebox and set not to run on the PC to Pixelpeeping me. Many of my photos I'll make enlargements (75x50 cm) as a poster or on canvas and I am very satisfied with the picture quality I achieved with the Sony A55 + Sigma 18-200. The Sony kit lens 18-55 I mothballed.
Again and again surprising that reviewers, the light intensity and image quality, among others criticize and comparisons with 'kit lenses 18-55'. The light intensity is 3.5-6.3 at today's DSLR with good noise performance at high ISO at all no problem. And the image quality of lenses 18-55 with lenses 18-200 compare makes no sense. All Super on the market / Mega-zoom lenses 18-200 / 250 mm (original and third party lenses) are at a similar level of quality, some original lenses are even worse than the comparable Sigma lens.
Who wants to have the highest possible image quality, see item 1. My experience is that the compromise in image quality in this zoom lens, in practice, z.Bsp. in a poster / canvas 75x50 cm photo, not a negative effect. A precondition is correct exposure and focus and of course an interesting motif.
Finally, I would point out that I am writing this review from the perspective of an amateur photographer who makes most of the photos on extensive travels and the capture of impressions is more important than the last bit of a supposedly higher image quality.
