I've never had a kerosene heater and had therefore previously informed me as much as possible on the Internet. A good brand it should be, and a dual combustor so that it does not smell. When the unit arrived, I except the 4 batteries required (not included with the stove) and a 20-liter jerry can "Qlima crystal" Petroleum brought in the next hardware store because you read everywhere that "Qlima Crystal" is not only the "strongly" recommended "fuel" is, but also burns completely odorless. That is also so on the packaging.
Then again read the user manual, the unit made ready and then filled in the garage with the garage door half open for the first time. The plastic hand pump supplied makes really good services. (However, if during the filling - so as described in the operating instructions - looks at the "fuel gauge" of the device, is deceived, because reacts with enormous delay So rather look with my own eyes directly into the tank and fill carefully..) Have Thereafter I leave the unit burn in the garage for the first time, because at the first time it may smell for a while, I had read. It has terribly stunk, also smoked at the beginning (in the first 30 seconds). Although the fuel was properly aligned, etc. etc. After a while, it no longer stank so corrosive, but smelled slightly but noticeably more to himself. I have therefore long for 1 hour further after it in the (semi-open) burning garage to "brand-new" to eliminate residues.
The next day I had the device in front of our winter garden (outdoors) ignited. 1 meter in front of the conservatory door. Because the manufacturer says that it smells for 2 minutes at power on and off. It stank (!) And about less than 2 minutes (biting). Then the smell subsided (after the mantle was really red), I then very carefully into the conservatory brought in (only 2 meters, and very carefully, as the egg and spoon race)). Shortly after it began to be nice and warm in the winter garden, but it smelled too. The heat output is good, roughly like a 2000 watt electric heater. But - it smells much like a smell of kerosene, we disturb the very. To turn off, after 1 hour, I have it very carefully carried back 2 meters outside - just good! Because as soon as you press the off button, it stinks again caustic and biting.
We will keep the device nevertheless, in view of the announced power cuts with us this winter. According to the motto: a pack is still no, but probably frozen ;-) and lack of alternatives.
Basically, I have to ask: Qlima (formerly = Zibro) is one of the most prestigious brands on the market.
According to the manual one should not move the unit while it is in operation. But when switched on and off it stinks so so corrosive that it has no other option, but it has to start out and off (outdoor). Even during operation it still smells, despite the use of suitable fuel (Qlima crystal).
How then have only the laser kerosene heaters stink, the automatic (timer-controlled) in the room turn on and off? This is a great mystery to me.
Perhaps reading this an experienced camper who can possibly give us a tip on how to reduce the noticeable odor during operation, and possibly also the horrible stink during connection and disconnection. At the position of the burner and the fuel it is not, anyway.
