Secret Ladder (CD)

Customer Review

It's probably because I listen for several days in a loop, tonight I want to talk about the new album Christopher Cross. This is the first time I do a post on something new, so I will give you my first impressions, which of course only my opinion ... Cross is an artist that I love and I had been a little disappointed "Dr. Faith", and indeed, while looking quite impatient this new delivery, I did not do too many illusions about the final quality of this CD, hoping that he there would be some nice titles. Well I was wrong, for "Secret Ladder" is to place among the best delivery Cross. The comparison with his first two albums is void because more than 30 years separate the work of his first album and "Another Page". Production different, sound different, and the process of creation and registration had nothing to do.
The decor and asked I can start to dissect "Secret Ladder". "Reverand Blowhard" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) begins a fairly "blues" with its arrangements to the very characteristic acoustic guitar, choirs Gigi Worth and the "groove" of Keith Carlock, gives great scope to the piece The chorus is excellent and brass David Mann do the rest, it is undoubtedly one of the best titles of "Secret Ladder," we are delighted to find such a large Cross in shape and it commits us to continue listening; "I Do not See It Your Way" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) had disappointed me at first listen, I was wrong again, it starts with chords on guitar reminiscent of "Saling" the comparison with "Sailing" will stop here because the construction of the song is different, the work of David Mann is remarkable, and this melody which initially did not really convinced me, proves excellent after 3 plays ... I completely revised my judgment! ; "The Times I Need You" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) is much more pop, C. Cross as we dream, a clear melody, chorus and the Beach Boys were jubilant at the finish! I would have seen a Timothy B. Schmit in "backing vocals" to add a bit of spice !! ; "Island of Anger" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) begins with voice and piano, to give birth on a very good mid-tempo, with a "bridge" to make you shudder and a great guitar solo and discreet; "V" (Christopher Cross) continues to delight us, what a beautiful melody wrapped with ropes and a beautiful acoustic guitar as Cross knows so well done; "Experiment" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) is built on a slow waltz tempo, it's beautiful, it grows in strength in apotheosis with a magnificent solo, with the unique sound of the guitar of C. Cross; "Simple" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) begins a bit like "Think Of Laura" piano, voice, acoustic guitar, the chorus as its title seems quite easy at first listen, superb vocals to the "Beach Boys "is the second part of the title and it is just beautiful; "Wonderland" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) starts a little like a piece of Dire Straits with Cross taking some intonations Mark Knopfler at the edge, it's a bit more "rock", I love this song, the chorus is beautiful and this is Eric Johnson on guitar, and then solos in the middle and end "wow"; "Light the World" ((Christopher Cross / Stephen Bray) is oriented "world music" with of course always paw C. Cross, choirs "Swahili" gives a very nice African side and Michael McDonald sings the title duet with Cross ; "With Me Now" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) is romantic and sweet, cool, beautiful arrangements sprinkles as such a great time on this CD (but there is no bad !! ;-)); "Got to Be a Better Way" (Christopher Cross / Rob Meurer) is currently my favorite track, while Christopher Cross comes down through this way, melody, arrangements, the side "convertible car" speeding through the California desert, there's ... it's always enjoyable and at the end the guitar solo which completes the whole, I almost forgot the icing on the cake for this song, listen carefully to the "bridge" Keith Carlock; "A Letter to My Children" (Christopher Cross) is the very beautiful conclusion of "Secret Ladder", tablecloths violins, a melody with piano and guitar and a chorus that takes us ...
You'll understand, I love the last Christopher Cross, certainly one of the best new called "westcoast" this year, if not the best ...
Here these musicians: Will Lee on bass, Keith Carlock on drums, keyboards Hozibal Eddy, Gigi Worth in the chorus, Chris Walden in "flugelhorn" Scott Frankfurt on keyboards and percussion; Eric Johnson on guitar, Michael McDonald for a beautiful duet; David Mann for brass; Jeff Foskett choirs for the "Beach Boys"; Scott Sherill to "crash cymbals"; Stephen Bray on percussion and choirs "Swahili are insured by Adetomi Akinbode, Dapo Dorimiro Lade and King.
For arrangements of strings found Rob Meurer and Chris Walden.
The album is produced by Christopher Cross except for "Light The World" which he co-produced with Stephen Bray (which could do with Madonna in the past, if I'm not mistaken) ...
Do not miss this beautiful CD !!!
