I really wanted and tried for months. I have an EOS equipment from the year 2004/2005. A 20D and many, really good lenses and several good lightning. Before that, I had an analogue EOS 5. I am so what SLR does not address complete layman. I wanted to but have a camera with which I can also record video.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to try, the 60D and the 7D for a few weeks (it is always regarded as sacrilege by a double-digit EOS on a three-digit "dismount"), but become really happy I'm not with them. They were too heavy for me and at the 60D the rubber dissolved after a few days (known problem but does not occur with all cameras). The weight problem I had with my 20D already. Technically of course you can not say anything against both - they are great - but they did not fit me right.
Then came the 650D, so I started a new attempt. Technically, she plays with the two above-mentioned in the same league, although there are of course differences. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether or not the flash sync of 1/200 him enough, or if it needs to be 1/250. The same applies to the shutter speed - 1/4000 (650) vs. 1/8000 (60 & 7) and some other features. I am a hobby photographer who sometimes sell one or the other photo, and have decided that the 650D has technically more to offer than I can ausreizen and ever had. Opposite my 20D with the 28-135mm USM lens, the 650D with 18-135mm STM lens weighs 300g now less (1089g incl. Battery + belt) and it shows!
One difference, where I was just not so sure I can live with the missing rear dial is (instead there is a 4-way rocker) and the missing illuminated shoulder display. But they do have a fantastic touch screen, which responds perfectly and just fun (I say this as iPhone and iPad owner!). Ruck-Zuck's all set necessary. Super!
I 18-135mm 1 Camera Kit with Canon zoom lens in the EF-S: 3.5-5.6 IS STM bought with STM technology and I can only recommend to all ambitious amateur photographers. The lens offers compared with the normal kit lens (18-55) again more space and the STM lens is anyway a must for those who want to make video recordings.
After the trip to the 2-digit (60D) and even the 1-digit 7D, I have found that in addition to the technology inside especially the feel is crucial. Yes, the housing is made of plastic and metal, but I think the 650D looks not a bit cheap, it is easier and I think it's great. I had the EOS 5 (also plastic), which has for years made Super services in outdoor use me without leaking. So I have every confidence in the good workmanship of the 650D.
The 650D is a fantastic digital SLR that I can recommend without reservation! The art is great, the image quality (depending on the lenses) and also whether 60D, 7D or 650D - What really matters is then but the person behind the camera ;-).
Useful accessories:
2 x slabo screen protector Canon EOS 650D Screen Protector film "Crystal Clear" invisible MADE IN GERMANY - Touch function is not restricted, brilliance of the display is maintained (which is at antireflective not usually the case), and super easy to apply.
B + W Neutral Clear Protection Filter (67mm, MRC Nano XS-PRO Digital) - protects the lens (18-135mm); I prefer to brush around with a handkerchief on a 50-glass, as on a high-quality lens ;-)
