The internal microphone is completely useless if they experience wind. Even at low speeds, the wind noise cause overloading, leaving only a distorted noise and rumbling is heard. When using the external microphone, which is available as an accessory, the audio quality, however, is quite usable. But then again you have an annoying cable more. In addition, the camera is no longer suitable for rain, because an otherwise sealed socket must be exposed for the microphone plug.
The image quality decreases rapidly in adverse lighting conditions. Is it too dark, the images are noisy arg. If you have backlight, darker motives in the picture become virtually black. Since you the direction of travel on the bike with respect to the sun can always choose not necessarily, then portions of the recordings are often unusable. With my bike when accelerating also occur fine vibrations that if they transferred to the camera body, leading to a completely blurred image.
The camera can be powered externally (board power supply or battery pack via Mini-USB connector). However, one must evidently a particular sequence when you have attached / on note as the camera (my anyway) hangs otherwise and can be brought only by removing all power sources again. But you should note that with the insertion of the mini USB cable to the camera the capability rain drops since here again one of the rubber covers must be removed in the camera body (which, incidentally, come off easily and may be lost).
The display is ok indoors but already in normal daylight out too dark (at maximum brightness setting) in order to align the camera so can and therefore unusable for me.
The control buttons are very stiff and - although quite large - with motorcycle gloves hardly to use me.
When making adjustments in the Camera menu, the camera will depend on sporadic. I have to remove the battery and re-insert in order to use them again can.
This property offers an Android app, with a smartphone via WLAN can be connected to the camera. It provides a live image and many settings that need to be made in the camera menu otherwise. While the app works, can be with me (Samsung Note II) but not exit in the normal way. I have to do each time by a forcible termination in the app settings on your smartphone (maybe I also do what is wrong).
So, these were now already quite a few criticisms. What is the camera for my purpose, however, completely useless, is this:
During the first trips the camera fell sporadically completely made or there were crashes or the entries in the camera menus were mutilated and showed to nonsensical lyrics. The error could be resolved, and the camera was working normally again only by removing the battery. However, this error occurred repeatedly. Partially recorded videos were lost. I could rest assured that the camera went through during the rides never. At the end of a tour, I often had to find that parts of the trip were missing because the camera had run out again. These malfunctions could be reproduced by hand by the way even by tapping the enclosure.
Good, I thought, the device is apparently defective, perhaps somewhere a loose connection. Can occur even once. I complaining the camera and my traders swapped them out.
When replacing equipment but were exactly the same mistakes again. In addition, after a rainy journey penetrated water into the lens head of the waterproof camera. So I complained again and again the camera got a replacement camera. And what should I say? Again came the same mistake. If these flaws occur at three different cameras in the same way, then that can now no longer be a coincidence, yes.
My personal conclusion therefore: this camera is vibrations and shocks, as can occur on a motorcycle in the operation, no match. When attaching the body (for example, at the helm), the failures described may not occur because of this dampens vibrations such strong. However, my camera for a helmet assembly too heavy and too bulky. Also, I do not want to drive like a crazy Teletubby so through the area.
I am now switched to a Panasonic HX-A500. The operating concept with the detachable HMI is awesome. The alignment of the camera with the helmet in driving position is easy, the small lens head the helmet is light and unobtrusive. The image quality is comparable to that of the Ghost-S (4k is possible), the behavior in low light conditions is slightly better, but the sound is also poor.
