I find the idea behind the book really interesting. Children who survive a particular disease, but this must "pay" in order that they get special abilities and are feared by adults. They are put into camps, divided according to their abilities and "rehabilitated" ... at least think the adults. In reality, these camps are but more like prisons and the children with the most dangerous gifts usually do not survive the first year. Ruby gives us this world in the first Kapiten the book before and not only once a shudder is me running down the spine when they reported on the katastophalen circumstances. Throughout the book are more and more such terrible scenes, which is why the book is not really something for the faint of heart and justice-loving readers. Sometimes I have me of the stupidity of the adults really excited and could not understand their behavior easily.
The start of the book was really promising. Ruby's life in the camp, her well-kept secret and the unearthing of unexpected turning point have made me very curious. Then Allerding flattens the plot unfortunately somewhat. Ruby gets to know a few other "outliers" and chugs with them through the country. You can chug at this point really say good, because it was me at times really boring, although it is not as if nothing happen. I just was not really excited by what has happened, it was positive or negative. I could not say exactly why that was. Under no circumstances it was because of the characters, because they have I really liked it. Ruby is not a simple person and I think I would not understand me very well with her, but for The Darkest MINDS it seemed to me a good cast. For the little mute girl is very dear to me. Even Liam and Chubs I liked, which I liked better Chubs has. That's why I was not really satisfied with the love story. For me, the two just do not fit together and in my opinion there was too little emotion in the game. Otherwise, I found the scenes who and generally played inside the car Betty between this foursome really nice. It is above all the little things that make this moment so special. I actually can always enjoy the atmosphere.
But not quite the truth was the rest of the book. Eventually, the small group arrived at their destination and there they encounter one of the most well-batty characters I have ever met in a book. Sounds strange, but is true. This person I had been best at the first encounter a slap. I simply did not understand him, he was not sympathetic, but really feared I was not in front of him, I found him just "yuck". It's interesting how find at this point in history, many individual strands of the story to each other and can also be seen that in Ruby's world not everything is as it seems at first glance. However, some questions remain open and I very much hope that this will be answered yet sufficient, because some is still not entirely clear.
Overall, the book has unfortunately made for no more than an average reading experience, which I think is very unfortunate. The individual elements I found really good, as is the idea that lies behind all this. Unfortunately, only the overall picture was not what I had hoped for. I believe that the series holds a lot of potential, so I'm going to read the second part also in all cases. I am confident that there is quite a bit better. I can quite understand why so many find the book as good (at least it has in Goodreads an average rating of 4.3 at about 14,000 reviews) but unfortunately I have to say: I've read better books.
