The marketing of Rome II did a good job, with all the points that made this game better than Shogun 2 and leaving into oblivion those who make less attractive. I usually present the first bad point:
- First, which was quite interesting in Shogun 2, it was just the fact that the Japanese speak Japanese ...! This item is optional for some and very important to me. Indeed, the game was really much more stylish with Roman speaking Latin, the Germanic speaking German and others, instead, I have a French accent that makes me want to mute the sound.
- Secondly, politics, which made us dream with assassinations and imprisonments in the trailers, are reduced to three buttons that quickly proved rather tiresome and optional (after my 25 hours of play).
- Concerning the now interface (the campaign card), it took me at least 15 hours to understand which buttons did what effects since these buttons were imaged "on Romaine," which in the idea is not bad, but in practice icons Shogun 2 was much clearer (for the castle there was a picture of a castle, while here it's a design reminiscent of hieroglyphics) .
- Last remark, which I count as optional, however, there are some bugs, but they are already correct and patches are scheduled every week, so do not worry.
For the good points (and by that I mean better than Shogun):
- The map is huge, and when I say huge is HUGE. Ie Europe and parts of Asia and Africa ... Of which provinces are each divided into regions! So instead of conquering a city for Persia for example, you have to conquer the capital and the other two colonies that form.
The naval garrisons can join our terrestrial units in battle.
- Ability to establish in our armed customs that will be specialized in attack, defense or other (you even pause to barricade defenses of its kind and well suffer during deployment).
- Finally, castles and especially the cities are large, very large. Great as citadels in Shogun 2 are worthy trays sands and suddenly, the seats are more exciting!
In conclusion, I think that Rome II is to have to be able to epic conquests and build huge empires, but being patient to find it with the buttons, fixing bugs and hoping not to be worthy plots a Brutus who murders his father in his clan. Buy it, the trailer makes you dream, the game that keep you awake, but at least you do not sleep.
