I do not like thrillers, but there ... frankly, what it is! Chosen somewhat at random, I read this volume, which happens to be the first of a trilogy, with the first appearance of a major protagonist in writing Ellroy: Lloyd Hopkins. What makes the whole point of Ellroy (this book anyway: this is my first!) Is this character, and this writing. The character, detective, happens to be a policeman personality disorder. We can not say either qu'Ellroy Manichean: it kills, cheats on his wife, etc. but we love it. Hopkins is dealing with a killer who looks strangely like him ... As for writing Ellroy, it is devilishly sought (I wonder what happens in English!), Incredibly concise and poetic. Psychological research is remarkable: the characters are very worked, they have a true thickness. I look forward to again !!!
