For 6 months I was using my iPhone as a radio connected to ad hoc forums. It was not ideal (it is still not its primary function) and I had to stop after an unfortunate dip said telephone in the toilet, after which the phone has become insensitive to the speaker connector . Before that I was using an old alarm clock FM radio reception. No device seen in stores not convinced me (they seemed to do everything except what I wanted, listen to the radio in a simple and reliable way).
I think I found with this Auna IR-140 what I want!
The radio is delivered by UPS, packaged well. Rather, it is compact and light enough. Design side, I chose white (also available in black and green), she is sober.
Use side, as I wanted, it's easy! There comes a wire to connect the radio to electricity. There is also a remote control supplied with the battery inside (you just need to remove the protective tape). When the radio is on, a menu appears. The Internet can be selected or do not consider it, if it has no Internet. I like this possible dual use, my obsession is a broken Internet connection (here comes, so do not bet all on it).
1. The Internet selection
I started by selecting the Internet mode, all Wifis available networks, just select his own with the big wheel and enter the code (always with the big wheel, by selecting letters one after the other .. . for once I hope you have not kept the original codes to 26 characters, because here you might take some time!). Then you can easily select the time zone, the radio displays the correct time. I also chose the language (French) and then I went to get my favorite radio stations.
2. The selection of radios
I advise you to select radios by category, if the offer is bloated and as long as your favorite station or at the end of the alphabet, you will spend a lot of time. You can save (10 possible ranges) or by long pressing "select" (when they arrive in the "favorite Internet radio stations") or by pressing the "memory" button (I prefer, there is direct access, while the Internet is a favorite radio submenu of a submenu, when one is somewhat up in the morning, so keep it simple).
3. The information
Great news, thanks to the 4-line display, it has details of what's on the radio, as the new radios. It's a nice comfort.
4. The alarm clock
You can set two alarms to ring is the weekend or to ring the days of the week, ... many other configurations. We choose the radio should turn on and the desired audio volume.
5. Other
This device also makes a lot of other stuff that does not interest me, at least at the moment:
- It can stream music via USB (there is a special port) or through other devices
- It can make FM radio (this will be the day that my connection will be planted), there is an adjustable antenna to the back of the post
- You can listen to this radio with headphones (for those who want the night to listen without disturbing others?)
- You can connect the radio to the Internet via an Ethernet cable if you do not have wifi
Etc.
In short, it is for me a radio that is both simple and versatile, well thought out for the end user. My only reservations:
- The manual is only available in German and English (and as I had settled the French language I understand a little groping)
- The instructions and navigate the radio menus could be more intuitive (but this is a user of Apple maniac who speaks, who is already happy to have found the equivalent of the iPod scroll wheel Central control on this radio)
- The screen is vague and downright bright at night illuminated when the radio is on. Now, I like to sleep in a well darkened room (which is also commonly recommended for a good quality of sleep). I have not found a button to block the light, so I cover the screen with the foldable case of an iPad. It is not perfect (because plastic is a little translucent and allows the light on the other 3 sides, so luminous ball, but it will anyway.
