The K-7 is compact and fits comfortably in your hand. By pronounced recess for the middle finger one has any time control of the camera. The little finger is down only half court, but contributes to hold anyway significantly.
Some controls are different, but ergonomically arranged. You get used to it pretty quickly. The switch for the Shake Reduction was saved, but the switch can be achieved by the new direct adjustment via info button also quickly achieve (admittedly not quite as fast as with the switch of the K10D).
The autofocus sits much more reliable than the K10D. The observed there correcting an already from a previous photo seated focal point has almost completely disappeared. Also the AF-C mode I trust now more than in the K10D.
The new high-speed continuous shooting is fun, especially because the shutter sound is now quieter and much smoother. At the point where the speed is to break, I am not yet come, because I always shoot a short series.
The exposure is very reliable. It happens that one in the camera monitor as a nearly "failed" eingeschätztes image proves (to darken the foreground against a bright background, without flash) considers itself on the PC but then to be useful. The new feature of the Highlight Correction can I regard as meaningful and useful, but they can large overexposed areas to avoid, without the rest of the image suffers. Only small spots remain (eg tiny reflections of the sun's glare in chrome parts) "flashing red" (overexposed) get what but the image does not hurt. The shading correction, I had not yet been activated.
The white balance is, aside from additional presets, similar to the K10D. For indoor photos (incandescent or saving light) I set the white balance anyway on one of the presets or shoot in RAW setting, so that I can report to the automatic white balance under those conditions nothing. A new feature has it done to me, however, particularly, suppose you come from inside (white balance is set to bulb) and goes to light, without turning the white balance (happened to me quite often, just forget). At least the first image is then usually for a ton. But now the hammer: one notices the error in time, you can change the white balance and subsequently re-save the last image with the new settings! This only works with the last picture (probably because the RAW data is still in the camera memory), but it has already saved me in the short time a number of images.
The JPG image files are much larger than the K10D. Was it there in the *** - setting 3 to 4 MiB, there are now almost always about 6 MiB per image (RAW file format PEF in 14 to 16 MiB). An image quality there is nothing to complain about, but I'm not a "tester", but evaluated the images according to their own criteria)
I have tried only briefly the video mode. It should be noted already that the video files are huge: for 17 seconds (setting 1280x720 ***) are already nearly 100MiB needed.
The "real-time display" (Live View) I've been used to estimate the exposure situation (because there also histogram and light-dark areas can be displayed with). The contrast autofocus in this mode, I feel as though simply screw slowly (but if it is even finished, he sits).
I use the K-7 at the time with the DA * lenses 16-50 and the new DA 50-200 WR.
Other little things that deserve a mention:
The suspension of the belt is now such that it does not buckle when the camera together with heavy lens diagonally hanging down. On the other hand, depends thereby in advance of a "left" Belt part in edgewise photographing on the nose (probably just a matter of handling and habituation).
The electronic spirit level is to use well (however, the horizon correction, I have not tested).
Pretty little setbacks (from my personal point of view):
The locking of the program choice wheel I feel as a hindrance, but it seems well to give a target for ...
The locking of the battery looks much more delicate, it remains to be seen how long does that. Also, the ejection of the memory card has fummeliger.
Conclusion: All in all, I have realized during the first practical assignments that the acquisition of K-7 has fully paid off for me! This does not detract from the qualities of the K10D previously used, however, the progress with the K-7 is enormous. This means full marks and 100% recommendation!
