My setup consists of the following chain: Macbook with Fidelia 1.2.1 as a software player> Audio Quest Dragonfly USB D / A converter> Lake People G103-S headphone amplifier and headphones as a HiFiMAN HE-500.
Actually, I'm very happy with this setup. However, I read in the test report that the slightly more expensive Meridian Explorer still has to resolve a cut and will play a little fuller in the lower frequency ranges than the converter of Audio Quest, which occurs a little Tick bass shy. Better is the enemy of good, and so I ordered the curious Meridian Explorer.
While the difference in the resolution and stage performance with the Dragonfly can be heard clearly to line out of my notebook, I could see almost no difference from the line-out to the Explorer. A blind test I had not existed. Since I was a little insecure. I tried the manual and the manufacturer side, which brought nothing at the end. However, I read in an American forum, that the first explorer started with relatively high output impedance of 50ohm and almost certainly because it may be degrading sound quality. My guess is that I had an Explorer this genre and this unfavorable met with my setup.
But from the packaging to processing quality, I can say that is undoubtedly great.
The Meridian Explorer went so back unfortunately. Too bad ...
