I used to buy my external hard disks, so the solutions (= housing + HDD). But which are becoming more expensive, the more space you need.
And then I came fortunately to the SATA QuickPort Pro. For backups simply the best and cheapest solution for me: easy hard drive clean, short make backup and then back out and into the closet. Internal hard drives are just so much cheaper and meet here super its purpose. No more restrictions when taking pictures.
Only negatives:
- USB (also 2.0) is simply lame compared to the external FireWire 800 hard drives. Perhaps yes brings a current or future version FW800. eSata perhaps future, but is spread still too little and in older (and some current) computers, we would still invest in an eSata card. Not worth for me.
- And yes, it's true. The hard drives are quite hot in the QuickPort (eg larger backups) for extended use. But for me it's always just part of a backup solution and in that case you can also accept the time. So as a substitute for an external hard drive in continuous operation not a good idea.
Overall I am very satisfied. 4 stars (5 if it had Firewire)
