Three years together and still Shelby has no visible sign that her boyfriend Matt wants their relationship a step further. As Christmas and the New Year also pass without her wearing an engagement ring on her finger, Shelby turned to her mother for advice. This is romance writer and must know what to do. However, Shelby puts their suggestions a bit random order, and when they flower sends itself to make Matt jealous of one (of course fictitious) admirer, comes from nothing more according to plan: For the fictional David Jones there are actually, and soon will be he for Matt a very serious rival. Sheila Rabe tells this story with a lot of humor and lots of allusions to Hollywood movies. Fortunately, one of the applicants for Shelby's affection is at least a wonderfully normal but lovable kind of guy, the author of the otherwise often followed -entgegen scheme in romantic literature is a real opportunity, so that almost to the last chapter remains unclear who now actually will make the grade. The subplot with Shelby's mother and uncle Matt gets almost as much weight in the novel and captivates the reader not less. The style of the author reminds us of novels by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and could certainly appreciate fans that author. At times you would have the motivations of the characters certainly can represent deeper without doing the entertaining character of the novel demolition, therefore only four instead of five star rating.
