LED LENSER T7M incl. 4x AAA incl. Bag 400 lumens (equipment)

Customer Review

As always, I take no mince words. :)

I like LED Lenser, I also like the people behind it, was often the direct purchase at the "two brothers" in Solingen. Nice, friendly, helpful and humorous people.
And I love "man usual" even flashlights; more sophisticated and lighter the better.

But the T7M is unfortunately anything but brilliant.
Excuse me, I have to drive my enormous five-star pioneers here in the paean Parade. But you can not leave so easily. At least not without a guilty conscience because of concealment blatant shortcomings.

General Gemecker
Bought, delivered, unpacked.
The first disappointment: I buy in Germany with a German company goods for the German market.
And get clearly a product of the English-speaking market.
The first language of stupid and impractical Faltposteranleitung is English.
The German part was apparently translated; with some very 'imaginative' grammar, incorrect punctuation and allerpeinlich False Kompositabildung with "Depp blank". Ok, not really matter. But must still not be in a not quite cheap lamp.
A "Smart Card Instruction" lies. The brief explanation of all settings and modes.
Entirely in English. No German word.
I understand English, I have been working for more than 17 years, day and full-time with this primitive language.
But others do not understand English.
Why is a German product from a German manufacturer for the German market with an English instruction delivered? I complete mystery.

Scope of supply:
- T7M (really, now)
- Four Duracell batteries
- Impractical Guide leaflet, main English, hingehunzte translation
- "Smart Card Instruction", entirely in English
- "Mini Catalog", entirely in English
- Case (too small)
- Carrying strap (not adjustable, therefore also not particularly secure)

Lamp itself, appearance
One thing first: The "T" in "T7M" stands for "Tactical", ie "tactical", or "military".
Aha. Really impressive.
The "tactical" refers to the fact that the on / off switch at the back sitting, you usually automatically by holding the lamp at power on an equal footing.
This is tactically extremely clever because the "enemy" then know to what extent the head is and can start a tactically meaningful headshot in war scenarios, without having to struggle with the penetrating body armor.
Yes, very clever.
For "tactical" is even more.

Externally the T7M strongly reminiscent of the T7, I own also. Also, the pipe diameter is identical: 3 cm. Good to know if you're looking for a suitable holder for the bike. Strangely silent but no one, even the manufacturers do not.

The unfortunate AAA batteries still come to power (better batteries that come with the power requirements much better deal, losing is not as fast in continuous operation at light output) for use of which you need four. Why not finally switching to three AA batteries / accumulators? The lamp would thereby rise by perhaps 4 mm in thickness. But considerable endurance win:
AAA Batteries: 4 x 1000 mAh = 4000 mAh
AAA Batteries: 4 x 1200 mAh = 4800 mAh
AA batteries: 3 x 2000 mAh = 6000 mAh
AA batteries: 3 x 3000 mAh = 9000 mAh
50% to almost 100% more stamina would be in it, assuming similar conversion losses.
But no, the two brothers continue to rely on the "Children batteries". Too bad.
But it's better than special batteries that are always empty when you need them and can not download, then so is fine and no chance in the dark.

- The lamp rolls away when you do not lays on a level surface. Stupid. But incredibly determined "tactically" if the light does not stay where you need it.

- You can not stand upright the lamp, because the switch protrudes one millimeter on the edge of the end cap. Also very "tactical", as "electric candle" unusable without Frickelei so.
A millimeter less switch length and could stand the thing easily. But you can not. If you have because not thought about it? Stupid question, obviously not.
The really sad thing: One has an extra end cap redesigned so that the T7M actually could stand upright. And then do you make the switch too long and the effort so that again completely destroyed. Do you understand that?

- At the end cap jammed a silver "wire loop", where you can connect the T7M somewhere. This thing does not fit properly, shifts and twists continually interferes when holding. Best Bend equal and settle before the thing at the wrong moment anyway by itself and the same with T7M adopted.

- There is no reflector, only a sliding plastic lens. Which makes their work relatively well, providing wide-angle and high beam, the focus can be locked by turning the bezel now. Good idea, but useless if you want to ram the lamp into the provided case: Then the focus shifted yet the pure hammering or Raus tugging because Vaseline is only by force or by the liter, as the case simply too tight (or T7M too thick ) is.

- With the "tactical" switch on the back to turn the lamp on and off by tapping on one additional light modes by which needs no thinking person. One can also dim the lamp by extremely gentle pressing and holding the switch almost continuously, which in practice works miserably bad.
Luckily, you can the T7M with plenty Peeled and contents also set that Blödsinnslichtmodi no longer be offered. A lucky. The problem with dimming but not disappear by.
More under "light modes".

- The T7M is "splash-proof", equipped at Endkappengewinde with an O-ring, but not waterproof because water gets in the focus adjustment. Not consistently thought through. Therefore, one would have the O-ring also may be the same bend.

Light modes
Here served two brothers then nonsense until you drop.
There are the "Professional", "Easy", "Tactical Defense" programs. All English, was clear. And Tactical Defense! Tactical Defense! BOAH! Impressive!

+ Professional:
- Press switch, lamp.
- Tap switch shortly thereafter: "Low Power". So low light performance. It makes sense.
- Hold switch then tapped: "Dim". So dimming. Hardly use.
- Tap switch with burning Funzel short: "Blink". Power, as it is said: The light flashes. Why do you need that?
- Again briefly press: "SOS". The lamp morst SOS. Sure, you constantly need. As the whistles to the aircraft life vests.
- Again press once: "Strobe". The lamp flickers. Aha, Soso.

+ Easy:
- Press switch, lamp.
- Tap switch shortly thereafter: "Low Power". So low light performance. It makes sense.
- Hold switch then tapped: "Dim". So dimming. Hardly use.

+ Tactical Defense (Whoa, TACTICAL!):
- Press switch, lamp.
- Tap switch shortly thereafter: "Strobe". The lamp flickers. My friend would say: "Well, kommste eat now?"

To "Tactical Defense": I shall therefore effectively and brachial defend really, by letting the lamp flicker. So So. On the Web site of the manufacturer I read: "The high-frequency flashes of light (strobe) are a quick and effective method of defense The US Army [yet another." Depp blank "] is now on [" at ", not" too "?] this technology in the field of Non-Lethal Weapons (Non-lethal weapons) one. "
Do you know yet the Disco Blitzer, so the strobe lights of the disco? The flickering same, only much stronger. And? Are you thus all become incapacitating and winseltet in dust crawling for mercy? No? Funny, right? But must be so, but even where the US Army but is not; the silly Geflackere simply brings nix. As everyone knows, was the flickers times in the Disse.

Two brothers builds nonsense as "Strobe" and "Blink" and "SOS" for years already in their lamps. Only - for what? Nobody needs that, it's just annoying if you forget how to change the lighting programs (switch tap four times, then press completely), then constantly triggers stupid Geblinke, flickering or childish SOS Gemorse. When Morse is not even the way "given" right; the relationship between "long" and "short" is not right, front and rear. Yes, I know, I once learned Morse.
Good thing you can park by light program changes the spasm now.
Better: Not only installing, put prefer energy development in meaningful, practical benefits rather than silly kid stuff.

On top of that, even if "Strobe" would benefit even the least one could not use the function in a panic situation. For to this you have to turn on the lamp until then extremely sensitively to switch only a tiny bit, not completely by pressing. For this you need proper tact, because you are very fast on the "click point" beyond. Then "strobes" nothing at all, then the lamp just goes out again.
So panic function only works if you set them with absolute tranquility and very delicate sensitivity. Real sense.
And described as fast and directly above this is only possible if you had previously set already "Tactical Defense (applause!)" As a light program, that already knows exactly that later the murderous extreme action-Flackerfunzel needs an attacking army ( perhaps even to make Chuck Norris) by illuminate incapacitating. If you have set the preset "Professional" program, which goes like this: switching, sooooo slowly and carefully tap switch, again, again, then again.
That works! The attacker is in fact starved in time or died of old age.

Service
Bad.
- Switches
The switch is crisp, feels good and high quality, is also likely to hold moderately long.
But once you get to "touch" him, the fumbling starts. Between "Tapping" and "Pressing" are felt 0.00001 mm. Constantly pushes you through the switch, if you just want to touch him. You have to really concentrate on the operation if it is for work. Will not you, you can not often. And if you have the great light program "Professional" is set, you have to by organs all settings all over again in order to reach the desired function again after a "Vera Tipper".
What you thinking? Quite obviously nothing. Or even less.

- Dimming
Oh, how convenient, I thought to myself when I read it. Always as much light as I need just. Forget it!
1) The dimming function always starts at full brightness. So if you just want to just have very little light, it burns from a Always the eyes. Why not start at the "zero" why at "full speed"?
2) The dimming setting does not remember. When I turn on the lamp next time, she forgot the previous setting again. How So?
3) Dimmed will not be shut down to zero, which would make sense. Is dimmed only up to the stage, which is anyway set as "Low Power" -Vorgabe when tapping after switching.
4) from "full speed" until just before "Low Power" -Vorgabe the T7M dims down slowly. After affenartig fast that it is not possible to set the desired small amount of light. And on the lowest level, there is no short pause - NE: It immediately goes back up. Once you have thus realized that less is no longer in it, one has already too much light. Then again burn out from the front, eyes, then slowly dim, switch button only not too deep because krischst Plack!

Why can not I set really dark the T7M? To read or things like that I need almost no light. And that is not on the main T7M.
Why does the thing does not realize the last setting starts over again at "full speed"? Why "locked" setting at the lowest level is not short on, shows me: Here's the end of the grounds, then you go up again? Nope, rapidly again blindingly bright.
Thus, the dimming function is almost completely useless. Anyone who has struggled with it a few times, very quickly lose the desire it, then limited to the two default levels, none of which is dark enough.

In practical use, making the oh so tactical T7M not a good figure: She rolls away, it can not be stand upright, it only fits with absolute power into the case, the focus detection survives an out tugging not out of the case, it is not waterproof, can only be operated with absolute finesse, like a raw egg.

Light!
Disappointing.
Yes, disappointing.
The T7M is (very briefly) much stronger than the T7, one has only not much of it. The T7M can namely not so narrow focus as the T7; the beam is contoured much larger and unclean: Defined around in T7, edged ausfasernd in T7M. Thus, the playful T7M its performance advantage in Engfokussierung for wide lights again; the cone of light is too wide, so far is not enough.
Well the T7M beats but at close range: The light cone is significantly wider than the T7, you get so much more at close range illuminated. Here shines the T7M with a wide, fairly uniform beam without great "holes" and "rings".
If the remote focus would be similarly well but it is not.

The light color is horrible. My T7 turns white. The T7M lights whitish-pink-violet. Makes a füchterliches light.
It may be that this is not always so, I became a victim of production diversification. But the price of T7M there should not be such a simple scattering. Light must be white, not white-pink-violet.

The worst
Power loss !!
Why is not that on the website of the manufacturer, why mention that none of the five star reviewers?
400 lumens should throw the T7M. Maybe I can not measure it that.
400 lumens, so if you hold briefly in "Boost" mode the button is pressed.
So let us out of 350 lumens in normal mode. Still plenty of light, as created for. Instance as a bicycle lamp. Forget it!
Because then you look at the instructions
It says namely that this brightness is maintained only for two minutes, in the next five minutes to drop to 50%, 25 minutes later, at 15%. FIFTEEN !!!
And then I do not have 350 lumens more until only 175, then 53; DREIUNDFÜNZIG.
The Manufacturers website is silent. The five-star reviewers mention.
What shoud that? I buy a lamp that is advertised with 400 lumens, I get a lamp that significantly fewer than half, then gives only a better Funzeln after a few minutes.
Applied to cars: 400 PS! But after seven minutes, only 175, then down to Trabant level with 53 PS.
Would one not feel the least fooled? Me, yes.
And (not only) so the T7M come very, very quickly away again.

+ Burning time
35 hours standing there! Clear that the unsuspecting reader thinks: Wow, 35 hours 400 lumens. Nope; see above.
And 35 hours does not mean burning time with lots of light, but burning time until the last Funzeln.
Ok, this is forced Marketingkniff Two brothers, because other manufacturers drive the same lousy games. As you saw in Solingen compared pretty bad. After all, is the manufacturer on its website 2 hours at full power. Thanks for the honesty that should really get there with good dry batteries also.

Field Test: T7M equipped with Eneloop batteries freshly purchased, freshly loaded to the brim.
I briefly machs: After one and a half hours ists over, then signaled the T7M by (tactical?) Flashing, that they can not, the batteries are at the end. Are they also, I only fair about 0.8 volts.
So: You will receive one and a half hour or less of useful light, only in the first few minutes really a lot of light. After that, only the back burner, after 1.5 hours, the furnace from.
That to the "35 hours".

Features
There are two power consumption modes: "Energy Saving" and "Constant Current".
"Energy saving" (ie energy conservation) is misleading, does not save energy, simply means that the lamp draws so much power as to provide easy access to the batteries straight. The lamp is therefore continually darker; with dry batteries worse than with batteries. The lamp lights up until the last Funzeln.
When "Constant Current" the light is not steadily gloomier, but suddenly stops when a certain threshold is reached.
So one should not merely select the CC mode out there "in the wild" or TACTICAL inserts (haha); because then one is from one second to another without warning in the dark. Dear set the first mode; because you get with reference to the waning brightness, as the energy is running out gradually, can accordingly adjust.

Conclusion
Away with it. So pretty lamp is also so sympathetic to me that people are at two brothers also so it could not be real. Let's see what there so everything is at Fenix; TK35 looks promising.

My two brothers-wish: Please stop with the bullshit up, let the flashing and "tactical" Flackerkindereien. Establishes a lamp with three AA batteries / accumulators. Waterproof power the thing. Improves cooling, so that the light output is not down the drain after a few minutes. Adjusts the length of the switch Endkappenkanten so that the thing can stand. Ensures that the lamp can not roll away. Let us dimming down to zero, sets "below" a break. Begin dimming from scratch, not at "full speed". Ensures that the lamp remembers the settings, the next time again illuminated with the previously eingedimmten brightness. Enlarges the key travel between tapping and switching through. Installed only white LEDs, not the white-pink-purple-committee Goods from Grabbeltisch. Improves Remote focusing; shall strike a suitably tuned stop; brings something. And offers' ne bracket for mounting rails of the USP series Heckler & Koch. :)
