Construction / Features
One should not let the name fool SLIM too much, really compact is not this cooler. Its height is even for adult housing (LianLi PC-6) already borderline, exceeds even the official installable size of 160mm easily. The width, and it was there for me, however, is within the scope. So the cooler allowed even after installation with full access to all the RAM banks in my MSI 1150 Board. The build quality is very good, the cooler comes packed with a clean and usual good beQuiet Silent fan therefore. The heatpipes are meticulously crafted and the base surface is very smooth and protected by foil. Also positive is noticed to me that the entire backplate-side that faces the board later is coated with a non-derived layer that also with foam or something prevents you scratch the skin to the Board.

Installation
Here I am a little divided on and Ultimately this leads also to deduction of points. On the one hand, the installation is very easy. Press backplate, by pushing the push pins from behind and secure means of small plastic spacing holding tabs on the other side of the mainboard.
Then the bow of the corresponding socket screw on the radiator and put on the board. Now the Board raise so you comes close to the bottom push pin screws with a screwdriver and then, ideally always nice diagonal, tighten. Done.
Sounds simple and it is actually well. But I have this simplicity can only learn by viewing 2-3 Youtube videos. Because the manual is printed first, really very, very small and, secondly, these schematic drawings are not always immediately self-explanatory. Here I would have from a German manufacturer, who (rightly?) Cries too high prices for its products, already wished for a better guide. If paper is too expensive, then please, as with MSI to videos on their own website which explain in more detail there using QR code on the left.

The fan makes its name. Certainly, and rightly so, it is often criticized when someone says his fans would be inaudible or silent. And I think these statements are too silly. One has in practice already really with the ear immediately before the fan hanging around this in idle mode to hear. At full power, although he is relatively quiet, but just not "quiet".
With the heat of my Xeon 1230 V3 however the Slim gets along very well. Even at low fan speed. Temperatures are currently at 26-28C ° in idle mode and at about 56-59C ° in the Prime-full-load and correspondingly high twisted fan speed. For those of us who do not plan to overclock significantly and can live with that the fan due to the smaller heat sink slightly revving at full load must and want to get rid of the old boxed fans, the Slim is likely to be very interesting.
